What nanites are aren't as sifi as one would think neither are most things in this game. but you don't die when you get shot in the legs. you bleed out which this game follows along. the only thing that I would say is, by definition, sifi is inertia dampener. everthing else is just the future... minus alien races. |

It's in the flipping future. Don't you think they would have developed a way to transfer ammo from clip to clip?

Wow...the first post is really the most valid point in the thread. The deal with shields? Simple really:
They collect all energy above a certain threshold so that the player can still see out and others can see in. The energy of say an explosive blast is mostly going to be lost in the form of heat that will naturally radiate in all directions while the shields absorb any directed at the player. This remaining energy, while substantially less than the initial blast, can't simply be redirected immediately or you would just have a second, albeit smaller, "explosion" to deal with. Conversely EM radiation is devastating to shields because all of it must be absorbed as it will not dissipate on contact. Current manufacturing oversights notwithstanding the Flux Grenade is harmless to the soldier but is instead intended to overload the suit's shield systems.
The energy is instead stored within the suit until either there is no more energy to be absorbed (short delay after you stop taking damage) or your suit has reached the maximum storage capacity (long delay after complete "depletion".) After a set safety period the suit will begin to slowly dissipate the stored energy in a controlled fashion, which is why shields naturally recharge on their own.
Your shields aren't actually a physical thing, they are more a measure of "capacitance", for lack of a better term. They don't actually have mass (AND SHOULD THEREFOR NOT TAKE DAMAGE FROM CONTACT WITH OBJECTS. THINK ABOUT IT CCP) nor do they interact with solid objects allowing a soldier to grip a weapon or manipulate objects.

The repair tool doesn't create anything. An armor repair system directs nanites to repair the damage to the suit but requires powergrid and CPU to provide the necessary energy and to control the repair job. The repair tool simply transfers the resources of the user's suit to the target suit to facilitate repairs. The pretty beams were just added for quick and easy determination of their proper function and secure lock on the target suit allowing the tool's user to maintain their focus on their current surroundings instead of staring at a readout on the tool itself.
Think that about covers it. And yea, the magic bullets in the clip thing has honestly always bugged me about games. |
