Link above to the Massively interview about Uprising. The central theme according to CCP (& the topic of the first twitch tv interactive discussion this week) is the link between Eve and Dust. Specifically, how do they make things matter to us, the players, in both ends of this big sandbox.
So, I ask you, my fellow betaVets, what will Make It Matter to you when the Uprising starts?
I started playing Eve mid-2007. There have been many times when events and circumstances in New Eden have mattered to me in ways that easily mimic crucial real life moments. No other game ( and there have been myriad) has come close. No other company could get me to fly around the world to Iceland (best trip Evah). If it can be done, CCP can do it!
Think big. What kind of thing, in terms of gameplay and player interaction can you imagine that would Make DUST Matter? |

I started my second climb up the 'learning cliff' with EVE by enrolling in EveUni. Good times. Noodle salad.
I remember learning as much about Internet spaceships being serious business there along with the great gibbering hoard of frigateers that comprised our Unista-roams.
Months into my education word of Faction Warfare came to light and I set my sights on what sounded like much bigger pasture. It was. When FW launched we all got into the mix. The whole Squid vs Frog culture sprang up...I fought and won and lost and on & on amongst many corporations.
32nd BlackRise Defensive Unit was one of the last. We had great times and, given the time and abilities of an FW corp, did 'big' things. It's all relative. But that's the point. I didn't have to be written up in the NYTimes or become infamous on a dozen websites across the intawebs for it to matter. What we did in early FW mattered to me. Woke me up in the middle of the night to try and flip a few more plexes in the hope of capturing more space from the Gallente.
If DUST can inspire in me the feeling that the battles we fight make a difference beyond isk balances and K:D ratios, if taking and holding THAT key district can have a real effect on the bigger conflict...that would matter to me.
That's my bar, CCP. Make a system that inspires big sustainable conflict and ties deeply into FW.
Or make a game that blows my mind the way discovering that first wormhole and jumping through into...who knows what...
That stuff was so great. I am very much looking forward to the end of beta. It has been a fun, long, tedious, worthwhile experience.
I am excited to see what they've got in store. |
