A couple of smoke grenades could be just the thing to foil snipers and other long range insta-killers. I personally don't mind being sniped for sticking my head out into the open, but I wouldn't mind being able to toss a smoke grenade out there for a bit of obscurement.
Could also be handy for assaulting a guarded room, although standard grenades work pretty well for that. |

smoke nades are actually snipers best friends. thermal scope, drop smoke when shot at, kill badies, snipe some more repeat as needed. |

How about a holographic projector grenade? Makes a 'cloud' of nanites that obscure people and makes it impossible to see people through it, even indicators. |

that would be briliant, since those nanites could be a rather effective chaff, smoke, and thermal cloud all in one, making it impossible to see or scan through it, though at the same time since the chaff would be a kind of hit both sides thing you'd lose contact with anyone outside the nanite cloud |

Even if it did work both ways, in most games it does and it works fine. Another idea, it could work like in Black ops 2 (let the 'codboi!' hate begin) where you can see slightly better looking out the cloud then people can looking in. Thoughts? |

Then maybe increase the grenade capacity from 3 to 4 to improve its usefulness, and make one type of smoke grenade an instant-deploy on impact... would be pretty kick ass.

Seems like a decent counter to snipers/ranged-awareness. It's also a practical existing technology that you'd think would be replicated in some way. If it was a nanite swarm version instead of straight smoke (I guess you could have both, the nanite could be equipment), then you might have a dispenser that could be destroyed by the enemy team. I'd assume you'd want some sort of finite time restriction on the grenades themselves, and probably a delay of sorts for the smoke to issue forth to a respectable degree (true to life). If it was placed in the current grenade system with tiers, higher tiers could last longer, produce broader columns of smoke, or be different colors or something.
I'd be fine with a nanite device jamming scans to some degree, but I think you should be able to scan through smoke. Maybe keep your targeting reticule from turning red if smoke is involved though.
I guess some games give Snipers thermal scopes and such, but unless that sort of weapon customization comes to Dust - that counter won't be available. |

Indeed, it doesn't necessarily have to be a smoke grenade, just something that can be used to screen maneuvers. If smoke is too low-tech, perhaps a 2D vertical wall or an area of extreme blur (processor intensive, I know). |
