No reset, respec or refunds.
I would like to see a system that polices the high sec districts for boosting, farming, AFKers and and maybe incorrect suits.
Now before everyone rages hear me out for a moment. Hopefully districts will be like systems - in the future - and we can travel to any district in any system at anytime. We may have to get a ride from a space taxi but we can go if we want to. There would be rules set for each district that was based on the security status of the system in which the district's planet is in.
Sec status rules 1.0 Starter gear only no vehicles - for noobs 0.9 Starter gear and free LAV 0.8 MLT gear and MLT vehicles 0.7 Standard gear and MLT vehicles 0.6 Advanced gear and Standard vehicles 0.5 Advanced gear and Advanced vehicles. 0.4 and under is anything goes. As with EVE we need a "carebear" area that allows new, low SP and casual gamers to have a place to go and not get destroyed. Concord could police the high sec areas. There is two ways to do this. The first way would not allow prohibited suits from being spawned( very boring ). The second and personal favorite would allow anything to be spawned or drooped but Concord would show up ( the speed at which they show up depends on sec status- higher sec = faster concord) and kill the out of suit mercs or destroy anything dropped by the mercs or anything over the designated equipment and a hefty fine like getting caught with contraband
This kind of system would allow for the training of new mercs in an area where top players would not like to be or limit top players to a set of equipment. This would also be a place where rivalries could be fought out; ensuring that skill is the determining factor. Skills would not be policed only equipped gear and deployed equipment and vehicles. This would also add to the sandbox feel of the game. If I want to go to a district that is held by a corp I should be able to. I might get biomassed before I walk two steps but at least I can do what I want, where ever I want and when ever. A merc or squad could just show up and screw around but not capture the district. District timers - to me - are kind of backwards but it seems to be the only way to do it. |

The reason this is a bad idea: I'll just max my passive skills and have a damage/health advantage vs new players in highsec even though we're using the same gear. Not sure why people want a reset so badly. You're just going to make everyone grind again, and in another 2-3 months you're going to ask for another reset because people got ahead in SP and you feel that's the reason you're dying.
Skills cannot be policed but dropsuits, equipment a vehicles can. There will have to be some kind of sandbox feel to this game. Remember we live in the New Eden of resets and carebears. High Sec in EVE works kind of like this, yes it is very different from EVE but we need something. I do not agree with any type of SP refund, reset, bounus for noobs or anything else that ends with respec. However, we do need some type of system in place for non hardcore gamers. This would solve all the problem of the QQers on the forums. Vets in proto would not be able to be in high sec without punishment. How could they cry with a hand holding system like this? |

The point was your suggestion is supposed to create a place where low SP people won't get destroyed, yet I could easily run militia gear vs new players and have a distinct advantage purely because of passive skills. I mean, maxing weaponry alone turns a militia AR into a duvolle, what if I have the damage from AR proficiency as well? Sure, it's even more of a discrepancy having those passives and higher gear, but the passives alone are a huge factor in the damage right now thanks to the flattening. You won't be creating a safe zone for new players when I can bring in my +10% weaponry damage, +15% proficiency damage, +25% shields, +25% armor, +whatever else depending on what I'm using, eg. sharpshooter etc.
Yes, but there is no other way. New Eden is for hard core gamers. System security in space is one of the few policies in place that allow carebears to get by. I was blown up on my first day in a 1.0 system and I didn't quit because a player with years of experience blew me up. Holding hands is not the way to go. We need a system that puts people in game fast and let's them play. This game is not that difficult and should not be made easier. New players who rage quit are going to quit within a month anyways because they are quitters. The people who stay in DUST are going to stay no matter what. Just like in any other game where player skill, player social interactions and the ability to read and do math players will cry unfair about something and quit before they try hard. We shouldn't dumb down a game because new people are quitters and/or too lazy to read.
I checked, it was my forth day in game with a crappy fitted ship. I was ratting and he blew me up. http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12997468 |
