CCP has told us in the past that matchmaking is "based on a number of factors and numbers". Well, I say you wipe the slate clean, and make it based purely on total SP. Those with 5-7 million play with their own guys (most with this dedication are skilled gamers), and 3-5 million, and then the rest.
Simplest and quickest solution in my opinion. Take out all your other "factors" because obviously they're not working.

how does this well thought out solution account for differing SP levels among squad members? |

I don't see the issue with our current matchmaking, but if you think there is and you want it fixed, this should probably be in the Feedback/Requests section. |

IMO they should make so that only the newbies get a chance to play with low SP players. So it would cap at let's say 1 mil SP. After one million SP you should be quite familiarized with the game and have at least an ADV suit and weapons. |

...So what you're asking for amounts to no observed progression from the perspective of any single player. Why have a skill point system if everyone you see has about the same skill points? |

how does this well thought out solution account for differing SP levels among squad members? base it off the squad leaders sp, tough **** to the rest of them EDIT: to clarify my stance in this, i'm in favour of having a system where all the players with less than 2mil sp get grouped together so they can learn the game and not get pubstomped(too much). after that it should be a free for all. |

1. Work out the minimum SP count required to go full-Proto in at least 50% of possible roles. 2. Add 20% 3. Count that as a "ceiling" above which an individual's SP will stop being counted as higher. 4. Count squads based on average SP, but apply the ceiling to each individual.
Lets say the Proto level is 5 million SP. That means the "ceiling" will be 6 million.
If you have someone at 8 million SP, someone at 10 million, a guy with 5 million SP and someone with only 1 million:
The 10 and 8 million SP guys are counted as 6 million, so the average is worked out from tose values.
(6 + 6 + 5 + 1) / 4 = 4.5 million.
Your squad of 4 players has an average of 4.5 million SP. The game will match you against other players based on that level.
If an individual player has 5 million SP, there's a good chance you'll end up in the same match with that player if he's alone, but if he's bringing a bunch of his corp's low-level alts with less than 1 million SP each in a squad, you probably won't. |
