Basically a scan that shows everything in the selected area (mercs, vehicles, drop up links, remote explosives, proxy mines, etc)
When reaching the Squad 2500 get a choice between Orbital Strike or Orbital Scanning then its goes to the map. The area of effect would be bigger maybe 2x the size when calling a strike and everything scanned in that area will be visible on mini map and everywhere else until they/it dies/destroyed.

While not a bad idea, I'd prefer if it didn't share the spotlight with the Orbital Strike.
While I'm so totally against escalation rewards in this game (Warpoints = OB) the scanner could be something fitted to a vehicle (similar to current active scanner) that 'tags' targeted objects.
These tags should have a 'time life' maybe in the realm of 2-3 minutes (or death whichever occurs first). |

black, orbital scan shouldn't be the only scan method. There still could be working hand and vehicle scans. |

This would be a very nice Eve to Dust feature. You would be able to have a corp pilot on orbit and from time to time, you could get some orbital scanning going on.
Nice idea! +1

Nice idea, I think it should cost way way less like 500 or something, and should reveal for a set time based on the skill of the pilot calling it it and level of the piece of equipment he is using. |

I suggested this awhile ago and still think it's a good idea, that said I suggested it at a significantly reduced WP cost, for a short term scan |

This is a great idea. Would love to see an orbital scan probe on EVE so we can actually make better use of the UVT aswell, I would actually be able to tell people which areas are more hostile which objectives we being taken. A sort of Sattalite that We could launch from EVE that would monitor the battlefield. |

I like the idea of a wide area scanning pulse. It should be something that, as suggested, relies on an EVE player, and uses something in their scanning skills to determine the radius, precision and duration of the effect. I could easily see it covering more like triple the area of an Orbital with the right skills, even if it only costs 1000 WP, but you would need to balance duration and precision with that radius.
And along with the suggestion for it to be 1000 WP, I think it should count from the same point accumulation you have towards your other Off Map Support options. So if your squad builds up to 2000 WP, you have to choose between aiming for another 500 points and an Orbital Strike, or using the Orbital Scan and needing another 1500 before you can call the Strike. |
