Day and night, Night vision
Feel free to correct me if this is not true but aren't planets just staying still in space? Aren't they suppose to spinning constantly meaning bases should have a day and night system? I never really understand why it was always sunny on the planets we were fighting on. I have seen some people on the forums suggest a day and night system, that is however flawed. A day and night system is actually pretty primitive and means things just happen without cause so I want to offer a better idea. Planets now spin and when the planet is not facing the the sun it becomes dark.
All dropsuit helmets will come with night vision so that players can still see at night, night vision can be toggled on or off by the left arrow on the PS3 controller. Players will now have to play in total black out as the planet spins their bases in to the dark, mercenaries will be moving into almost utter darkness and using their night vision on their helmets to see. Vehicles should come with more on board lights and built in night vision equipment for those controlling the vehicles and on the gunner seats.
Day to night effects
Graphics would be different at night and players would get two totally different looks of the planet and their base. The day time planet would be sunny depending on how high the sun is in the sky. When night time comes the moon will be in the sky making tides increase, the coldness would start to put frost on vehicles and bases. For less livable planets situations could become almost dangerous at night as temperatures drop drastically, things go to pitch black, winds pick up viciously. Each planet would have it's own temperatures and day and night cycles depending on hostile or livable the planet is. |

EVE Online
Dust 514 is a game connected to EVE online this means what happens in Dust also happens in EVE. So if planets are not spinning in Dust 514 they must also spin in EVE online. This would give players a look at planets as they spin through space. I think once again this offers more realism as planets are not just in complete darkness.
Sun Orbit
Planets spin around suns so shouldn't New Eden hold the same principles? Spin the planets in New Eden around the suns and the moons around the planets. Jump gates would have small firing rockets to keep up with planets and an on board computer to make sure they are in the same position of the planet. |

I like the idea, but the sheer amount of data that would have to be proccessed eve side is scary to think of. and this kind of thing is very far down the line if its ever going to be implemented. |

sadly true.
eve just has sooooo many planets
and times that by ten for moons.
they would need additional data banks just for this |

I dont see it happening , seems to complicated , maybe preset maps with day and night.
What i would like is to be like in WoW , if i log on at night there should be night and if i log in the day it should be day but that wont happen either. |

Planets will be getting Day / Night cycles based on EVE-side cycles... however, there will be no visual bleed over into EVE at this time. |

My big question here, is what will this add to the game other than everyone toggling their game into monochrome-mode and going about their usual slaughterfest? |

Another thing to think about would be weather patterns if there is going to be day/night cycle. Ive wondered about that while sitting in the war barge waiting for a match to begin. Ive seen what looks like hurricanes over the ground but that could just be the artwork. I can halfways imagine the coding necessary to institue this change and im sure it would an immense undertaking, but such things could add definite advantage/ disadvantage to the scope of the game. Snipers wouldnt be able to camp out when the weather is bad considering the field of view would be greatly reduced. AR/heavy would have an advantage because most combat wohld happen in close quarters. Vehicles, depending on conditions, could be virtually useless.
Just a though...... |

They have said things about atmospheres and weather variations. I'm unsure as to whether they'll have an impact on gameplay.
From what I understand, it may come to a point where different planet types will allow and disallow certain types of vehicles, or, weapons maybe, but others may perform better. Some may even require certain types of vehicles to get around easily. And with day / night rotation it could be a very interesting time say, flying a Drop Ship through Volcanic Ash cloud at night...
Would either need a day/night vision, or Instrument Controls telling the pilot how high, fast, etc he's going. (An idea I completely endorse for Drop ships btw. Air speed, Altitude, all should be monitored by the pilot. |

I think the only effect in EVE should be the the districts would appear on the night side of the planet. As there should be equal amounts of day/night districts, this would give a lot more variance for the people on the ground fighting during the day or at night. |

Hey Eris, we currently are enjoying (?) night battles as I recall. I am not fond of them but they are definitely dark although not pitch black.
Pitch black I would have a problem with as all the fancy devices we have installed by default show never let the night rule over our technology. In fact, I would just Leave Battles that were darker than the current versions. Not worth the time of day or night personally. Just my viewpoint. |
