Missiles that can vaporize Tank Armour, Forge Gun Blasts that annihilate steel and flesh alike... these are the tools we use for 'Anti-Material' efforts... yet, amidst all this, there are Trucks in the Scenery that cannot be destroyed, while the Tank next to them can?
Destructible Environments is a must for most games these days. I want to be able to level a stone building, use the debris to block a road from an oncoming LAV. Demolish a towering building (which also, mind you, would stop tower-camping snipers).
In instant battles, this damage would be temporary, cleaned up and rebuilt as soon as someone else starts a match on that map. But in Faction Warfare, and Planetary Conquest, this damage would have an impact.
Walls that are torn down take time to repair and replace, fortifications required unmolested time to rebuild, or dedicated Logistics to repair them while under fire (during the reinforcement timer).
Destructible environments opens up new tactics, strategies, and more than that, adds a level of OMG when you can co-ordinate to take down a huge towering building.
But where do we set the limits? Can the Null Cannons be destroyed? How do you control this aspect, when you have an objective that is meant to be controlled, and not destroyed.
Easy... you state this.
Yes, they can be destroyed, but your vehicle and installation weapons will once again damage the hostile MCC... as it should be.

how about no? i rather like that the MCC can only take damage from the Cannons, because what you suggest is thus:
destroy all NULLs and lolroll up to redline and make sure nobody can fight back.
i rather wish we didnt even have the issue of being redlined at all, and i'm hoping for something like Emergency pod drops in different parts of the feild, but having MCCs only hurt by NULLs it is something that makes it... less difficult to totally pin someone in the no combat spots |

That happens already.
But in the future, the maps will be huge, and having these so-called control points is unrealistic. And you say about redline sniping, you can grab your own Tanks, sit behind the redline if you so want it, and snipe their MCC...
As a bulk, however, the Null Cannons would do More Damage than a combined 7 Tanks with Railguns and Damage Mods, so Capturing and Holding the Null Cannons is a 'better' strategy. |

Destructible environments would be awesome but it's a big ask and is certainly not in a lot of games at the moment. I can see it happening at some point in the future with Dust 514 but there are a lot more important things to come first, so I can't imagine anything like this coming before the end of the year or even next year.
As for our weapons damaging the MCC - that's just stupid. It's a big ol' spaceship. That would be like a pea-shooter being able to damage a tank. The shields/armour on the MCC are so strong that even a proto-railgun should just bounce off it. |

The MCC is like a Carrier-Ship... if it's close enough to be shot by a Tank, it can be damaged by said tank.
I'm saying that the damage is smaller than normal, but damage should still be viable.
Having an AI-controlled mechanism isn't what New Eden is about. More power to the Players. And it would give AV players a continuing role if there were always hostile vehicles capable of targeting your MCC.

Don't hate the idea if it was done right.
There are plenty of installations that are indestructible in Eve, though. NPC Stations and Jump Gates to name a few.
Our current objectives are technically all going to be in NPC controlled districts for the time being (until or after launch, probably). The Faction warfare will essentially be in high sec probably until they fully integrate Dust with Eve, market and all.
My point here is that this idea would be a great addition to null sec, PC controlled districts. Null cannons could be player made and bought and would need to be replaced when they are destroyed.
The idea of attacking the MCC directly is sort of absurd. Their shields are probably hundreds of times as strong as a strong HAV. Null cannons fire huge missiles at them and they barely scratch the shields as it is. It'd be like trying to take down a Surya with an AR. Even 7 tanks firing in unison probably wouldn't come close to touching the amount of damage one null cannon missile does. |

The above suggested of 'Installation-style' Null Cannons has merit to some extent, so long as they were player controlled (ie gunner seat on the null cannon) and counted toward the Vehicle Limit as well...
Even use a specialized skill set to enhance the damage of said null cannons.
In the future, I believe, that the MCC would only be used by the attacker... Why would a defender need a MOBILE Command Centre when they've likely got a base on the District. |
