I'm sure everyone has complained about a blue, or even a squad jumping in and driving off in your Tank, or non-militia LAV, or even your Dropship. Or even worse, when you are forced to abandon your vehicle for a brief time, to hack an objective, to kill a hostile that your vehicle is ill-suited to deal with, so on and so forth, only to find suddenly, that you have moved beyond the 'radius of abandonment' and your precious vehicle begins deteriorating, and possibly, blowing up before you can return to it.
What I propose is a Vehicle Abandonment Timer that start as soon as you leave your vehicle. (Incorporate a UI clock over the top of a Vehicle Image that comes up and stays up while you have a deployed vehicle.) And when said clock hits 0, the vehicle blows up.
Longer timers for larger and more expensive hulls.
Militia LAV - 2 Minutes Standard LAV - 4 Minutes Prototype LAV - 6 Minutes
Militia HAV - 2 Minutes Standard HAV - 6 Minutes Prototype HAV - 12 Minutes
Militia Dropship - 2 Minutes Standard Dropship - 5 Minutes Prototype Dropship - 10 Minutes
Secondly, a simple Driver-seat lock set ON by default when you call in a vehicle. (UI Menu Option under the Neocom to disable Current Vehicle's Lock) Means that anyone can jump into your vehicle, but unless you unlock the Driver Seat, no one can 'steal' it.
This system would limit everyone to 1 Vehicle each. As soon as a new vehicle is called in by you, the former one disintegrates immediately upon placing the call, even if there are people in it. (Dumping said teammates onto the ground.) his will encourage players to do more than sit in their vehicles, and get out to hack points and so forth, without fear of your expensive ship being stolen.
As an addendum to the idea, there could be 'vehicle bays' or 'landing pads' incorporated into certain points of the map. These would provide multiple benefits to the holder of the point.
- Protect the Vehicle from Hostile Fire while 'landed' with a shield. Cannot be fired through by either party. - Repair (and/or rearm) the vehicle. - Prevent hostiles 'hacking' the vehicle while the point is controlled by your team. - Stop the timer that the vehicle has to disintegrate while your team holds the points.
This system would inspire a more tactical outlook on fights. And encourage teams to 'park at a point' when their vehicle is no longer required, but able to be regained quickly should the need arise. Knowing that as long as your team holds THAT point, your vehicle is safe. |

Following up the top idea, the Recall Vehicle Option has been popular choice for people. Add in this option as well, from the Vehicle Command Interface, you can recall your vehicle from outside a 'garage'. But not inside (so the act of recalling your vehicle has a risk that it will be lost, and cannot be done in a completely safe environment).
It will also be much easier since the 'Owner' of the vehicle is linked to his current vehicle, meaning that the call for a Recall can be placed anywhere, so long as your vehicle, and yourself, are still alive, and the vehicle is still under your control (un-hacked.) |
