Hey, when was the last time you heard someone from Valve talking about how great Half Life 3 is going to be? No one from Valve has even said it is in development.
When did Blizzard start taking cash for WoW? Not before it was released.
Your comparisons don't hold wait because the are all for retail products/subscription based MMO's. None of which had an extended open beta period where the developer was accepting real money.

Laheon wrote:Okay, let's take another example. Minecraft. They accepted money for their ALPHA. Another two alphas I've bought into, Kinetic Void and Starforge Alpha. Hell, there's a whole section on steam dedicated to "Early Access".
Another one is Arma 3... And another is Trials Gold: Evolution.
Need any more examples?
All the Arma 3 packages include the full game. I know this because I signed up for the supporter package as soon as it became available.
I can only assume that the rest of your examples are just as bad.
Selling early access is one thing. Do you have any examples of devs doing microtransactions during a beta? Then maybe we can talk about comparing the pace of the development of this title in relation to that one. Not that I would find such a comparison apt, but we can do that if you really want to.
I don't get why it seems to mystify people that others hold the opinion that CCP is screwing the pooch on development schedule and providing the players with meaningful information. |

Essentially, all you've done by complaining about game development and asking the devs to "speed up" is to show your entitled side. Asking for transparency... They don't need to provide it. Perhaps it's in their best interests NOT to provide it. Unexpected setbacks occur in game development, which means they may need to leave features out of this update to be put in later, or they might delay any planned deadline so that they can put certain, almost-finished-but-not-quite features in.
If they set a release date, and didn't meet it, how annoyed would you be? If they said this feature would be in and it wasn't, how much grief would you give CCP? I can imagine more so than you do now.
Why is the argument of the fan boys to always say people are acting entitled?
CCP doesn't owe me anything.
What CCP does want is my money. As much of it as they can convince me to spend.
Me telling them what they have to do to get my money HELPS THEM GET MY MONEY.
Why are you guys so dense to not realize that I WANT THIS GAME TO BE BETTER SO I CAN SPEND MORE ON IT!
Idiots like you prevent CCP from making more money. |

Laheon wrote:No. Repeatedly I've seen you, and others, complain that the game is boring. There have been complaints about the number of maps, slow gameplay, new game modes, everything. Almost all of those come from the same people, and the threads come within days of each other. The same people make the same complaints, day after day. They ask for the content as quickly as possible, when they don't realise how long game development takes.
No you have not seen me make posts of that type. I like the gameplay, a lot in fact. I enjoy the game modes, the maps, etc. My two longest running complaints have been how the game is punishing to new players, and the lack of communication from the devs on what is coming and when.
Laheon wrote: Yes, you're sick of the same game over and over again. Yes, you complain over and over. For example, your thread re: stop paying CCP. You want to motivate them, in order to speed up game development. I honestly cannot think of a more immature and entitled way of getting someone to do something for you.
Not at all correct. In fact, you have the entire relationship backwards. CCP wants my money. I don't need Dust. I would like for Dust to be worth my money, but I can walk away if CCP doesn't come through on their promises. And never forget that they made those promises, not me.
Laheon wrote: You don't NEED to send them a message. They KNOW. They're coding and making content as quickly as they can, and doing something as idiotic as not giving them money because they're being SLOW about it is the worst idea I've ever heard.
They KNOW everything about how to improve their game as they've heard it from twenty different people, ten times a day, over the last eight months.
The actions from CCP do not show that they are aware of how much the community wants more concrete information. Either that or they just don't give a ****.
Laheon wrote: Cut CCP some slack.
I would normally agree with you. But recently, there was an event that occurred on the forums that showed just how messed up CCP is.
Right before the Planetary Conquest blog went up, Fox four was in the forums, hyping it up and teasing people about it. I made a post about not over hyping, because it was only a dev blog. That was me being nice.
Later on in the thread, when the community was almost frothing at the mouth in the posts, Foxfour came back into the thread and rick roll'd it.
So, given that that is how the devs treat the community, I am being much more than fair in my response. |

That's been known for a while. @General: Apologies, I've seen too many of "this game is awful fix it" threads, that they kind of all mold into one complaint. I also get that you don't need DUST, but DUST needs you. That's what I'm trying to say - you're saying you won't give them money unless they do something you want. It is, in effect, coercion. It's up to CCP whether to release information or not. They've announced upcoming features, and what they want to be in the game for release. They don't want to be premature in anything else they do, and I can fully understand that. You do realise that Fox Four meant that as a harmless bit of fun? That CCP enjoys playing practical jokes on people? In fact, go through the first page of this thread. http://community.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1232785Also look up the boot.ini. Two very notable events for CCP, in which QA was very important, and two events which show they care very much, and love getting involved with the community.
First, they announced an announcement at fanfest. That is not the same as announcing an update.
Personally, I believe that we won't get an update until the next Eve update, which is on June 4th. Have CCP said anything of the sort? Of course not.
If CCP wants to be secretive, and not give anyone a date, that is their choice. My response is to not give them any more money. I encourage people who feel the same to do the same. Not because I want to hurt CCP, but because I am genuinely concerned about how this lack of information will affect the player base. Because I do understand that for this game to be successful, it needs a large playerbase, and with the current manner in which information is being handled, it will alienate people.
I have people ask me about Dust, about why I play it so much, and what is so good about it. I am getting fed up with trying to explain to them about the potential for the game, only for them to ask me: "Well, when does all that stuff come out?" To which my answer can only be "F'd if I know".
I have a large number of people that I brought into Dust with me. Out of a group of about 50, only 4 are still left playing. With that type of player retention, this game is in for a rough ride. And I really don't want to see that happen. The players are the best form of advertising you could have for this type of title. By keeping them in the dark, you limit their ability to do your marketing for you.
As for Foxfours antics, if CCP wants to play jokes on people, do it after this game has hit 1.0, not before, and certainly not once you have whipped the community into a furor. If you wind them up and then troll them, that is beyond a **** move, it shows blatant disrespect for your customers. I am sure they got a laugh out of it. I hope they did.
