We've all had that one game, that one guy on Manus Peak plonking his souped-up HAV in that area of elevated cover, nicely blanketed by the redline with full coverage of the entire map, all the points and generally being a complete ass.
This thread is about that guy and how we shall plot his untimely demise.
You may know the spot I speak of, you may not. It's on the south side. It is flanked by steep rises extending some distance back, behind it (for the opposing team) is the redline. We are going to assume a pretty good HAV fit, so around 7 or 8 advanced Forge Gun shots with a complex damage mod in rapid succession to kill. In practice it's usually more if they're stacking active hardeners but this is just to give an idea.
Simply returning fire with Forge Guns won't kill in this instance, they can retreat out of line of sight in a manner of seconds. To pull it off would require about 4 people with Breach FGs to sync their shots (and not miss) for massive burst damage. That's one option and if you do regularly run with people (and a team effort is pretty much required for any serious AV) one to consider, worth setting aside a Breach FG loadout for. Tough HAVs have plenty of time to react to damage and retreat, going to great lengths to one-shot them denies that.
The problem there is if they recognise what's going on. That vantage point does overlook most of the map and it's impossible to strike them from the side or back. Flanking being effectively impossible rules out a hit-team sneaking around with packed AV grenades but maybe a dropship could fling a jihad squad pretty much on top of it to do the same thing?
Please do chime in with further problem spots, anti-tank methods or just general tips on how to get the most out of AV weapons. Two things I don't know but would be interested to find out from anyone kind enough to answer is how much damage packed AV grenades actually do and information on how one might go about setting up and playing an anti-tank HAV. |

Small missiles deal some 500 damage per second if you hit a vehicle directly. That should be enough to make the tank driver switch to any small turret he has mounted on top to shush you away. Repeat this to maneuver as often as you like. |

I'm not sure where you are going with this... Small turrets are terrible too, so you should almost never see a good tank driver do that. |

0 Try Harder wrote:edit: oh I know the spot you're talking about. I'll post many ways to kill guys like that in a sec or two.
anyways, the best way to kill them is with another tank. CCP might make it so that shield tanks can no longer out-alpha armor tanks, so that guy in that crevice might be invincible soon.
edit edit: nvm, I looked @ the map. I thought you were talking about that huge hill on the NE side, not the sniper crevice on the road that goes underneath the enemy MCC.
I'd also be interested in hearing how to deal with the NE perch though I think you're on that. Thanks in advance for the anti-armour tank advice, you really think they'll nerf shields though? My understanding was that for most practical purposes armour tanks were the all-around better option. Certainly seem tougher to kill but that's probably just down to favouring FGs over Swarms.
Also wasn't aware theorycraft had been hijacked as a word by starcraft and it's ilk, heh. Counter-strategies may have been a better wording. |

It's not set in stone, but just speculation. Most of the armor tanks are annoyed that shield tanks have an advantage against them, so they are pretty much all on forums and want CCP to nerf shield tanks. No one knows what CCP has planned, so we'll just have to wait and see! If CCP continues on their awesome way of doing tweaks, shield tanks might be fine. However, when CCP has done nerfs to things, they have just made them useless.
If CCP kills shield tanks, then the shield tankers can go armor, or QQ on forums like the armor tankers did until armor tanks are nerfed too. If that happens, it'll just weaken tanks more than they already are. Shield tankers could also get buffed to take over armor's old role, but that'll just get everyone who does not drive a tank QQing on forums.
The best option if shield tanks get killed is just to go armor. That's what most of the good shield tankers are preparing for. If you want to start tanking, you should focus on skills that can be used for both shield tanks and armor tanks. Large hybrid turrets and the like are always good options. Large hybrid proficiency is expensive, so that alone should take you some time.
That is true about armor tankers being a better "all around" tank. Swarms are not as good against armor tanks as you might think they are. Armor tanks have a small amount of shield that recharges, but the real advantage to them is when they run two armor hardeners. You can cycle them and have 2x up most of the time. Forge guns are hybrid damage, so they do equal damage to armor tanks and shield tanks. But don't QQ about this on forums or all tanks will just get nerfed again >.<

ok ^.^ lol The thing about the other side (under the MCC) it's just the same strat as killing a tank normally, and I drive a tank... :P
I'll work on that in a little bit, but there might be another thread on this so I'll search first. |

Repeat this to maneuver as often as you like. this is about rail tanks... a rail tank would never switch spots or even any tank for that matter. but back to the op 4 breach guns doing close 8k damage would kill your annoying sniper rail tank but this would mean your whole squad would have to have forge gun lvl 2 and fit one. if not work on getting a OB then try with the FG then pop the OB on the weakened tank.
they maybe an issue now but they won't always be an issue. if you keep him hiddening then you can win the mcc, maybe even the clone war. |

I'm going to post the answer the dev will post here: that spot won't be accessible on the next build. There. |

Why? It's not hard to kill tanks there at all. Most of the time the only thing they can do is railgun snipe anyways.
Sorry, I said I'd post something and then forgot, I'll do it tomorrow xD lol. |

Grab 2 other friends, get in a militia LAV and run straight for them jump out and av nade him to death. You will lose all the clones + lav but the tank will probably die. Ive suicided my lav a few times on a tanker and jumped out right before the lav hit and threw a few av grenades. Got hate mail too ! |

That's nice and everythin' but I'm all for current solutions under our own power: how can we deal with this ourselves in the meantime and when it happens again in the future?
The simple answer in most cases is bumrush with packed AV grenades. Suicide LAV incursion into the redzone, airdrop, whatever works to get you right on top of 'em.
Might have to change that as the go-to tactic if what I hear is correct, 'pparently AV grenades have just been rather heavily nerfed. Will have to look into that.
Oh, and apparently ARs got buffed bigtime, range made almost comparable to laser rifles is what I'm hearing. Makes sense. Everyone knows ARs were underused and nowhere near flexible enough.
Really hoping that one's just a coding mistake, a misplaced decimal or something. |
