Once the R2 button brings up the wheel hitting R3 is trouble some.
Put the SL Commands on the Opposite side of the regular items, for example.
Once selected enable the Command Menu but add a new Feature as well. Choose Squad Member for Defense Order. That might bring up the Squad list and would eliminate having to find them with the floating icon and getting the selection to actually work. It is not uncommon to have to try more than once to set the Defend Order.
Considering that changing Fits or respawning cancels the Defend Order adding a Restore Squad Defend Order would be a great assistance as well. |

Didn't even know about hitting R3 until recently but I still agree. |

Also adding a function to make aiming in a squad members general direction snapping to them would be nice annoying when I miss squad member with defend order.
I think this has been implemented. You will get a lock on reticle kind of like a swarm launcher and when you hit R1 the order attaches to whatever you were locked to.
It is still clunky when you have multiple options in front of you... |

@Kal: +1, if for no other reason than mentioning the suit-change marker dropping thing. (FWIW, I'm pretty sure it's the suit, not necessarily the fitting. I've definitely seen teammates keep the Defend marker, and done so myself, across fitting changes - IF the fitting uses the same dropsuit, kind of like how the armor doesn't repair if you change to a fit built on the same suit type)
So, am I visualizing this right? You're thinking of adding an item to the top-level [R2] wheel to bring up the second wheel-menu (like the [R3] click does now) and then add a "Defend Squad Member" order? Sounds pretty good to me. I mean, I get along well enough with [R3], but it can be a pain in the balls sometimes, and I'm quite sure I'd get over the loss.
I absolutely love the "Defend Squadmate" idea. The marking-a-squaddie is an important enough (or at least common enough) special case that it should get its own item. One thought on that, though - I wouldn't mind having that menu be a wheel as well. I like having the ability to do this stuff while on the move.
Non sequitur: Hey, what about the idea of adding Orbitals to that SL menu? Or maybe the ability to call 'em in from the main map screen? I haven't done it in a long time, but on a few occasions while still a novice at the SL commands, I would find myself pulling up the map, deciding on a target, having to dismiss the map (cussing myself for a damn fool) and only THEN start the whole procedure the right way.
@XV: Heh. I think the [R3] SL commands might be the least-widely-publicized useful game feature ever. Was messing with my settings one day, and reset them. Of course, it doesn't just reset the page of settings you're looking at, so I had to go through everything again. During this, I noticed that the controller layout diagram points out [R3] as "toggle Squad Commands / Equipment" or however it's worded, and has some mention of the commands under [R2]'s label as well. I can't say for sure, but I think that's new. Well, new-ish. Anyway, it's still vague and not especially helpful.
The obscurity of the squad commands wheel is probably the best single argument for implementing Kal's idea.

how about when you are looking at the map screen when you see your squadmates (in green) it also tells you their name or atleast their class unless all 3 or 4 of you are running assault or one of the other class suits |
