The Marksman Rifle is a Gallente weapon developed by CreoDron. Combing accuracy with powerful blaster technology was a difficult and complicated venture, and many who tried gave up on the technology. Some corporations tried to cut their losses by downsizing the mechanics into a more stable version, from which the Gallente Assault Rifle was born. CreoDron did not give up on the idea of combing precision with powerful blaster tech, however. Using state-of-the-art drone AI technology, CreoDron developed an integrated accuracy program that would automatically adjust the the internal mechanisms and scope to cope inherent blaster complexities. The result was the Gallente Marksman Rifle. The Marksman Rifle is basically a Sniper Rifle designed to be used in the heat of battle and not from some isolated hilltop. Due to the nature of the Marksman Rifle, it produces far less scope sway. Scope magnification is also reduced, making it easier to shoot at mid-range targets. The Marksman Rifle deals slightly less damage, but has greater rate of fire and clip size. Unfortunately, blaster tech can only go so far, and the Marksman Rifle suffers damage falloff at exceedingly long ranges. It is for this reason it is called a Marksman Rifle and not a Sniper Rifle. In dense urban environments, the Marksman Rifle performs amicably, but in wide open areas with few areas of cover, the Sniper Rifle performs best.
The Marksman Rifle's only similarities to the Tactical Sniper Rifle is it's rate of fire. I say this because I predict that If I didn't say this, people would ignorantly point out that we already have this in the form of the Tactical Sniper Rifle. They are quite different weapons with different goals.
Advantages over the Sniper Rifle
- Increased rate of fire and clip size means missing a target is more forgiving on you.
- Decreased scope sway and magnification allow the Marksman Rifle to be used at closer ranges.
Disadvantages over the Sniper Rifle
- Damage falloff for the Marksman Rifle means that long-range sniping is best left to the Sniper Rifle.
- Decreased scope magnification reduces long-range sniping ability.
Role of the Marksman Rifle
- The Marksman Rifle plays a Sniper role in dense urban environments.
- The Marksman is of tactical (squad) importance whereas the Sniper is of strategic (team) importance.
- The Marksman has a better chance of surviving direct contact with the enemy.
Variants
- Charge - Charging increases damage and effective range. Charging makes you more Sniper-like.
- Tactical - Reduced damage but increased rate of fire and range.

Aeon Amadi wrote:Make it Minmatar design and a Projectile weapon and it makes sense. Never heard of a "mid-range blaster". Most blasters increase in range the more power you put into the charge. This basically takes a high-powered, long-ranged blaster and compresses it into hand-held form. |

I see what you tried to do here.
We had something like this a LONG time ago...
It was called *gasp*... The "Tactical Assault Rifle". lol The Marksman Rifle is more like a Sniper Rifle than the Tactical Assault Rifle was, but not as much Sniper Rifle as to compete with other Sniper Rifles at long-range. |

Well in eve, none of them make weapons but roden shipyards made ships are geared towards med to longer range combat Ever heard of ArcLite Arms? It's a small arms manufacturer that was acquired by Duvolle Laboratories years ago (YC110), confirmed by EVE lore before Dust 514 was even announced. And CreoDron makes drones, which could be considered weapons. In fact, Duvolle Laboratories has made weapon systems since YC100. Sure, it doesn't release any blueprints designs officially carrying the Duvolle logo, but still, lore confirmed it. The best example of roden shipyards focusing on range is the fact that the Emyo (roden shipyards frigate) has a unique bonus that out of every gallente ship ot is the only to have an optimal range bonus. *Enyo May I point out that the Ishkur, the Enyo's CreoDron counterpart, has an equally significant optimal range bonus? |
