Today I played a few games by myself, at one point I went into a skirmish game, it was anus peak and before long the opposing team had all objectives. I did my best to get a letter and push for the objectives, but it felt like a lost cause.
I then checked the map to see what was going on (maybe I needed to change spawn points to help my team) I then found out why we were getting owned. It was because there were 8 snipers on my team not hitting anything or doing anything. This went on for the rest of the game. Since I play with RND I barely come in contact with this strange phenomena but I do see how bad it can get. Usually we fight against groups of snipers on anus peak but it was interesting being on a team with only snipers.
It makes you wonder why people are so scared to die in games. Having a militia suit with only militia gear in it doesn't cost anything, so you can easily go into combat without to much risk. Maybe everyone worries about their precious kdr.
Well anyways thats it. We lost that round. |

CCP made nearly every map in a bowl, surrounded by mountains with head glitching spots.
I don't even blame snipers for doing what they do. When you give people the tools to play a certain way, they'll use it. Plus, there's no "middle ground" sniper rifle...if you know what I mean. No battle rifle, like the SKS, or SVD, or any other battle rifle you want to mention. Everything sniper rifle, and the mechanic needed to use it (crouching) encourages mountain sniping.
Not saying all snipers mountain camp, but yeah. CCP needs a battle rifle variant, and get rid of this crouching mechanic to to lvl off the scope on these medium range rifles. Press L3 / R3 to hold breath.
But it's CCP... we might never see a battle rifle version variant in DUST....or we might...who knows |

I went sniper hunting in my dropship today with a corpmate gunning on manus peak, every time a sniper tried to snipe from the raised road under the mcc i'd do a fly by and he'd nail them in seconds, we even got a forge gunner who thought us an easy target my gunner had 10 kills total, he topped the boards, i came 4th both of us 0 deaths. a match that reminded me of why i love flying |

wow. what a new and originally fresh topic no one has ever mentioned before...
I was minding my own business lazering people when.. well, I won't name names, but someone with a Thale ended up getting counter sniped by me 5 times in a row. Then by some odd coincidence we ended up on opposing teams in the next match. I sniped him.. another Thale gone. I took out 6 Thales from the dude.
It was satisfying to see him switch to AR on the kill feed.

Nah- but I mean- this has been discussed and bitched about to death. It really has.. see search.
My point? Sniping is fun, and sometimes it's the only fun when you get put into a match that's half over for the fourth time in a row on the team that is so far gone on the losing scale it's hopeless.
So it's a game. it's beta. have fun.

Was just playing a match last night where a red and a blue were mere feet from one another sniping. All either had to do was turn a little to the left (or right respectively) and see the other sniper. They never did. Snipers in this game are getting ridiculous when consistently 25% - 50% of each team is sniping nearly every other match.

People care about their KDR too much, it's even gotten to the point that playing in team with a friend of mine is impossible because i can't rely on him not to pull a houdini on me when sh*t hits the fan and we have odd's of dying, he will be long gone using me as precious extra seconds to get away alive. |

Ahh, teamwork at its finest. I do think people are scared to die. Since there is a corp enviroment and you have to be eligible to compete, because Corps can only have so much room and they have to train for each member they take, and they can only field 16 people during a district event and you have to pay for your gear. And the fact the game is hyped as meaning something to the MMO world and that its more "real".

Yeah, but if he would play like we used to when our suits costed 20k vs 120k and he didn't find KDR yet, we would dead stop the incomming troops and kill em all and only die 1 to 2 times a game but get 20-30 kills, now he's content only when theirs a */0 at the end of the score and the front end can be 1-10.
I should spec to sniper and let him fend for his own backyard lol, though i wouldnt be a worthless sniper :p |

That feeling of a "lost cause" is usually what me and my squadmates refer to as Sniper Time.
From either your team already being all snipers who aren't doing anything, or the teams just being wildly unbalanced. Sniper Time is when all hope is lost, so why bother throwing away your suits? Grab a charge rifle with some buffs and just try to get a few kills before the inevitable.
I feel like we aren't the only ones to do this too. Might be why after a point you noticed everyone just chillin' back waiting for their skill points and isk. |

I actually like the Manus Peak map... but that's because I put a few SP into Sniper Rifles.
Yeah... skilled that all the way to..... Level 2. Got me a moar-zoooming, fast shootin' Tactical Snipe Rifle.
When snipers become a problem on Manus.... I simply go sniper hunting. I have my Assault Suit, with a couple of damage mods, and a Sniper Rifle. Problem solved. I don't even need to buy a Scout suit.
That being said, when the matches get close on Manus Peak and points are changing hands regularly, I've played matches on Manus where there hasn't been a single sniper on the mountain by B, nor on the long ridge above C.
When all 3 letters are taken, however, then it becomes a red-line camp fest.
So I guess the moral of the story is... red-line matches are boring. |

This is the same exact reason I spec'd into getting any kind of Sniper Rifle. Since the range is so limited on the weapons, when one of them pops up as an issue, it's good to have the option to spawn with/hit a supply depot for an answer to them. Especially since most snipers are in scout suits and go down in a single chest shot, or definitely by a headshot. |

wow, my story touched a lot of people. I hear a lot of people saying I should just start sniping too. But actually the only time I start sniping is when my team is redlining the opposition, to kill all the people who are now sniping, to get at least a few kills in. I'm all about action so I rather just go for the objectives. I don't care about dying especially not in my militia suits that cost nothing, and I definitely do not care about kdr.
My best action on Anus Peak was when we were redlining and the opposition was pretty much all sniping. I brought in a dropship, the cheapest I have (which I made for situations like that) flew it to the building in the red line, bailed from the dropship. Landed on the building and took out 3 snipers with AR before getting suicided by the redline timer. That was pretty epic. |

As far as I know, it's only Manus Peak, that the mountain surrounds can be a problem, as you can nearly get shot at every objective from a mountain on this map. Open beta is not the sniper paradise, closed beta was. On the post, if you see 8, hey even 3-4 snipes up there and you can see your team is effortless in taking the objective, pick a sniper yourself or just sit the map out. Eventhough I dont snipe much anymore, I still sit on a mountain, if I can see my team keeps getting steamrolled in the start, as its a waste of ISK for me.
Correct me if im wrong, but KDR doesnt register through skirmish games anymore?

It's been broken since February 28th. I confirmed last night that it is still broken. The only time KDR registers in player stats for Skirmish is when the MCC does NOT get destroyed (i.e. victory or defeat by clone depletion). It does however still register KDR for corp stats in the leaderboards. |

Yeah maybe... who knows. We heard we were getting the Scrambler rifle soon... that was 2 months ago or something. Didn't hear anything about it since.
I don't know it's purpose or role on the battlefield.
Don't know why people blame the players for this problem. The big problem is map design, and the tools given to people to play like this. Putting a big mountain in the middle of the map overlooking EVERY objective for example... who thought that was a good idea??? |

Just remember people- it's not the "class"- it's how you use it.

four main classes - 16 players per team = 4 snipers per map with even distribution. You had ~8 on your map. Since I havent seen a huge pile of loggies, I assume that its not a equal distribution. This would lead you to believe there might be more of the other three classes.
Doesnt seem to far off the mark for a random pick-up game. Chalk it up as shyt happens and move on. I wouldn't petition for removal of a class, or call that each team should only have x of a certain class. If they are making warpoints and getting kills, then who are we to dictate their play style? If they arent getting sp and points, then they will likely switch out.....
