Caldari Prime (secondary?) was under Gallente protection for 100's of years. it was only some extremest radicals that stirred things up and kicked this potential war off all over again!...
The Gallente and the Minmatar have been allies for a long time, one deluded mercenary isnt going to change that.
Actually, Gallente Prime and Caldari Prime are both in the Luminaire system because that's where their ancestors lived at the time of the EVE Gate's collapse.
The Gallente, noticing signs of life on another planet in AD 22463 (YC -773), launched a space program to go visit. In AD 22517, the Gallente managed to establish contact and helped to uplift the Caldari (whose world was colder and more harsh) into modern technology.
Over the next few hundred years, the Gallente established relations with the Intaki and the Mannar. At this point, it was suggested that the four peoples create a Federation for their mutual expansion and benefit. The Caldari joined willingly.
About 33 years later, the rest of the Federation found out that the Caldari megacorporations had been secretly colonizing hundreds of worlds in a number of stellar regions for the sake of circumventing the laws of the same Federation that they supposedly supported. When the rest of the peoples of the Federation demanded that these systems abide by the agreed-to laws and treaties, the Caldari megacorps decided that this was a patriotism issue and unleashed a propaganda campaign demanding secession in the name of Caldari supremacy.
One result of that campaign was the bombing of the underwater city of Nouvelle Rouvenor, which was mostly inhabited by ethnic Gallente. This unprovoked, racially-motivated attack on civilians led the Federation to bombard Caldari military bases and to send troops down to the surface to provide security to the non-Caldari population.
The war devastated both sides, but it is interesting to note that the Federation prospered afterwards while the State stagnated and struggled to pay its bills. The reason that so many people looked at Heth as some kind of savior is that he restored their faith in the failed notion that the Caldari are better off alone than as part of a larger whole. Now, the megacorporations are trying to maintain the Empyrean War that he (and an imposter known as The Broker) started because it's the only thing propping up the Caldari economy.
I for one look forward to the day when the Caldari and Gallente can be friends again. I'd rather be mercing against pirates, Rogue Drones, and nutjobs like the Blood Raiders. |

It was never actually vacant. There were plenty of non-Caldari living on Caldari Prime at the time. A few Caldari did stay, and others came back over the years once the war ended.
The key here is that the Caldari STATE abandoned Caldari Prime.
No one in the Federation has ever sought to keep peace-loving Caldari civilians from living there, so long as they obey the laws that the Caldari agreed to in helping to found the Federation.
We cannot permit a hostile nation that has already tried to auction off Intaki (and OUR home world) to maintain any military presence inside the Federation.
I, for one, would welcome all of the Caldari back into the Federation. I would love to see Caldari Prime become once again the jewel of a peaceful Caldari people.
But... Luminaire and its planets can never be allowed to be part of the State anymore than Intaki could. |

Oh, so now you're Intaki?
It pleased the Caldari sympathizers, the nut jobs, and a few separatists. It did not please most of us. |

They wouldn't be coming if the State had not placed a Doomsday Weapon in low orbit over a planet inhabited by billions of people.
If the Caldari really want to save lives, they should jump that titan back into their own territory ASAP.
The Federation did not start this, but we are not going to permit a superweapon free rein inside Gallente hisec.
Dropclones are a much more humane way of settling this. Sure, cloned soldiers can do a lot of damage, but nothing compared to a miniature sun lancing down from low orbit.
As long as the Shiigeru is hanging over the Federation, the violence will continue to escalate. I've got capsuleer relatives (normal peaceful relatives) freaking out and trying to figure out crazy ways to destroy that thing. |

No corelation at all with our new clone tech, or major political events, or desestabilization of power, or internal coups, or deliberate provocations, or anything of the sorts?
She was there for 5 years without trouble, trouble is coming for her.
As an Intaki, I feel it is important to recognize the Cycle in all things.
The acorn contains potential for the oak tree and for the the many acorns that will fall from said tree. By planting that acorn, I am responsible for the tree and the acorns that will fall from it.
When Heth planted the Shiigeru in Luminaire, he set in motion a storm of emotion that would, almost inevitably, lead to violence down the road. He is not a stupid man, so we cannot excuse his actions as ignorance. We must therefore conclude that he was intentionally provoking a conflict over the sovereignty of Luminaire.
Though that conflict did not occur (until now), it is the natural fruition of his choice. He knew, on some level, that the Federation could no more tolerate a Caldari titan in their midst than he could stand the Federation's control of Caldari Prime.
Like two mountains warring- immovable, inevitable.
While we Intaki have been content to wait centuries for our situation to reach proper fruition, the Gallente and Caldari are very physical people, rooted in the mindset of a single lifetime.
Perhaps, someday, when both sides have the distance of history from which to observe this matters, a peaceful solution can be negotiated. Until then, we must work to restore the Balance that existed at the conclusion of the Gallente-Caldari War. |

You mean, bombarding helpless civilians like the Caldari Navy is doing right now?
The problem is that military types like to put military installations near civilian populations.
It's like all the generals just WANT to be able to QQ about how the other side was "bombarding helpless civilians".
It would be a lot more humane to just let us ground pounders solve the problem without orbital support. |
