Dust 514 is a naturally unbalanced game it will never be completely balanced no game is but in Dusts case it takes it to another level. Standard militia noobs going up against prototypes or marauder tanks and just being cut down with no remorse. While CCP can never fix their system mainly because of the skill system which both diversities and hurts their game it can be slightly tweaked and and pushed in the right direction. One of the ways it can be helped is by adding a skill filter, do not allow 1,000,000 mill sp players to go up against 6,000,000 mill sp players it is the reason we hear so many negative threads getting the QQ response in the forums. Unfortunately to the players who are reasonably complaining they are being shut down by more experienced in game players who tell them to stop QQing and that they are a blueberry. Don't worry guys it's only natural that you'd complain about not having a fair shot in a game. So CCP for the sake of every new player who joins your game implement an Skill pointer filter.
Another way we can stop the unbalanced game play in Dust is by adding PVE. PVE allows players to only work together it takes them away from having to go against mercs but instead fight beside them. I know CCP is going to add drone infestation and being able to co-op with other players to clear out these parts of the maps. Great idea CCP for people who want to escape PVP like my self this is a big +. Just think guys what if EVE was only pvp? What if there was no missions or incursions or mining even? Welcome to Dust.
Add a starters training mission for all races and players, better in game tutorial/tool tips, and training missions.
Starters training mission - when players first join a game before they even open the neocom they will be asked to take part in a training mission. This mission will be a solo mission in which Aura will teach you in game controls. You will be asked to kill easy shot drones who deal minimal damage. Once the mission is complete you will be given a small reward. However all this can be skipped if liked by denying the mission.
Training missions - After you complete the starters mission Aura will give you a small group of agents who offer you missions. Missions could go from military, to search and recover, to escort. There would be 10 easy missions for each mission types. So ten military missions (killing NPCs) ten search and recover missions (recovering stoalen data) and ten escort missions (escorting goods or people from one area of a map to another).

I agree with zis man! The only type of combat that could ever be balanced in EVE is PVE, because random squads of elite prototype-clad mercenaries just don't care about lower-end PVE that rookies would be involved in. However, PVE has been suggested numerous times. I'm still for it, however.
Also, if small-scale high-end PVE did come into being, it might draw some ProtoElite Squads away from Instant Battles. |

+1 to that. Very nice idea indeed.
Training missons, maybe, co-op training missions, or the battle for resources on highsec planets would be the way to go.
Like, if you are a new player, you can actually join battles on planets that are in highsec while advanced players are fighting for the domination of lowsec planets...
Something like that.
But again, in Eve new players have the ability to go to Lowsecs and lose their ships there, I think this also should apply to Dust allowing noobs to join lowsec planet battles and getting killed horribly.
Amen to that OP.

I see it in rpg terms since that is my background. We have lvl 85's in the same battleground as lvl 10's and told not to worry because the 85's on our side will carry us. I'm all for survival of the fittest in planetary conquest, but instant battles should be a bit different. |

While balance should always be in the mind of developers and should be something they strive for, it should not be the end goal, nor should they attempt to find "perfect balance".
Perfect balance is naturally opposed to diversity, freedom, character progression... Also, balance is often subjective.
So, in short, yes they should try to put players of roughly the same "strength" in matches together. And yes, they should try to balance weapons/skills/suits/etc so that they are not completely out of whack. But no, the game will never be truly balanced. And I think it will be a better game for it. |

When I read this thread my mind immediately jumps to Starship Troopers. Training courses would be fun, especially where you always lose and just have to see how long you can hold out.
