you won't be able to
once you're a codboi casual nothing logical will ever make sense to you.
that's why you need redlines, ff off, no vote to kick, squad limits of 4, more and more nerfs, whine that cru "camping" is unfair, etc.
in order to see how it happened, you have to NOT be a codboi. you have to NOT need all those things to actually be able to play.
that leaves about 80% of you just swingin in the breeze wondering "duh... what?"

Quote:But the skill gap is so compressed, that itGÇÖs like a slot machine. You might as well just sit down at a slot machine and have a thing that pops up an says GÇ£I got a kill!GÇ¥ TheyGÇÖve taken individual skill out of the equation so much. So you see these guysGÇöI see it all the time, they come in to play Red Orchestra, and theyGÇÖre like GÇ£This gameGÇÖs just too hardcore. IGÇÖm awesome at Call of Duty, so thereGÇÖs something wrong with your game. Because IGÇÖm not successful at playing this game, so it must suck. IGÇÖm not the problem, itGÇÖs your game.GÇ¥ And sometimes as designers, it is our game. Sometimes we screw up, sometimes we design something thatGÇÖs not accesible enough, they canGÇÖt figure it out, we didnGÇÖt give them enough information to figure out where to goGǪ but more often than not, itGÇÖs because Call of Duty compressed their skill gap so much that these guys never needed to get good at a shooter. They never needed to get good at their twitch skills with a mouse.
Players like Elliot [Cannon, Lead Designer] and I, back in the Quake and Unreal days, you know, we had to get good at aiming. These guys donGÇÖt have to anymore. The skill gap is so compressed that like, GÇ£The game makes me feel that IGÇÖm awesome.GÇ¥ These guys, when I actually watch them play, theyGÇÖre actually very poor FPS players. And I donGÇÖt think itGÇÖs because theyGÇÖre incapable of getting good, I think itGÇÖs because they never had to get good. They get enough kills in Call of Duty to feel like theyGÇÖre awesome, but they never really had to develop their FPS skills beyond that.
I took this out of the article and, indeed it IS spot on. |

I feel like Dust and CoD are two very different games and its not really fair to compair the two because they'll always attract a very different kind of fan. CoD is a twitch shooter that rewards you for memorizing the maps and having good reflexes. Dust, much like Eve, is all about managing your resources and matching your skill as a player, what your character can equip based on their skills, and what you can afford to lose in battle. I totally can buy a advanced heavy suit, stack it to hell and back with complex damage mods and advanced HMGs but the risk of me getting sniped and losing my **** outweighs the profit I may gain. I find trying to fine tune my ships a lot more fun then just blitz shooting.
That said Codbois need to stop trying to make Dust more like CoD. Even more homogeny between shooters is the last thing we need in the industry. |

In Cod, if you turn a corner emptying your clip Hip pre-fire mode, youll score a few kills easy, then teabag the b*tches....
In Dust if you use Hip pre-fire around a corner, youll just be sending them a msg that says "Ill be out of ammo when i get around this corner, get ready to shoot me!!"
Yep totally agree, completely diffrent games :p |

I don't think 'ruined' is the best word for the guy to use. It's kind of like saying "Star Wars ruined a generation of sci-fi fans" by shifting the community away from hard sci-fi.
There are too many subjective tastes involved for anyone to make a claim on tactical or arcadey shooters being superior. People are going to like what they like, and it's absolutely unfair to call them 'broken' because they prefer one style over another.
Also, I'm not much of a CoD player (I generally avoid non-sci-fi "military shooters"), so I'm a little lost regarding how 'easy' everyone refers to it as. Aren't you just as likely to be somebody else's easy kill as you are to rack up kills of your own? |

I think ruined is appropriate as a consequence of the consistency of the formula. The guns change, the perks get mixed up a little, but the game has handled identically for nearly a decade. That's a very deep rooted habit to break of what feels "fluid". Furthermore, by compressing the skill curve so much, people are not only tolerant of the "everyone's a winner" attitude, they come in to games trying to go somewhere different and complain that the game is holding them back from being good (especially important when they are not). |
