Hi yall. This is my first post on the forum. I'm playing mostly as a logi or as a sniper, but logi is to me the most interesting support class I've ever encountered in a FPS, aside from the general problems that players encounter on the beta. It is interesting because of the many option one can choose to support the rest of the squad, picking good respawn points, nanite injectors, repair tools etc... What I would find even better is if logi could actually build structures on the battlefield, depending on his level. When you think about all the hype around the 3d printing things, and when you consider this hypothetical project of the NASA with architect Sir Norman Foster using the moon regolite and the large 3D printing machine of ingeneer Enrico Dini, I think it would be a great feature (I'm thinking about long term development for the game here of course) if support strctures could be built live by a single or a team of logi. Sorry for mispealling and bad grammar, I wasn't born English speaking. Otherwise, what are the community thoughts (and hopefully dev thoughts) on this? Regards

They'll have a lot more of a Structure Repair role once they allow us to drop installations at our leisure, or allow our commander (not sure if they're still doing the one-man team leader thing anymore) to drop them for us.
Albeit, it would be nice if there was a way to keep structures on the field after they are destroyed so that they can be repaired rather than just disappearing off the map.
As far as Logi -building- things on the field..... I'd be okay with small stuff like small, chest high barricades that you can run through - like mobile shields. Reason for this is because it'd get really annoying to have a bunch of Logi's make some chest-high shields in a choke-point to disallow Heavies (being as they can't jump high) access to certain areas. |

Ekla, those are great ideas but I would not get my hopes up for them being implemented any time SOON (tm).
DUST 514 has no movable structures right now. Also, it doesn't have any destructible structures. I strongly suspect the total number of moving things in a battle (players, tanks, turrets, dropped items like nanohives) is limited -- by system capabilities if not by the underlying mechanisms.
All those things can be over come by placing more resources on the project, though there are practical limitations on that as well. CCP has a lot to do before they can allocate people to the kind of changes you (and a lot of other folks) would like to see.
I don't know if anyone from CCP has made a statement about building things, moving things or destructible environments and when, in the future, they might be possible. We have heard that there will be more ornamentation (trees, grass, etc) in the not-too-distant future. But we don't know yet those things will be altered by game play (blowing up a tree, a hole in the ground from an explosion). If they are, then we might be closer to your vision than I believe. But we don't have any official word yet. |

Hi guys and thanks for your input I'm of course not expecting anything in the near future. I'm just thinking ahead and trying to get out of the usal complaining about the present "lack of finish" of the game, wich to me is understandable considering the beta status it bears. However important those complaint may be considering the playability aspects, i'd just like DUST to be more than a simple FPS extension of the EVE universe. If I was involved in the actual propsective development, I would have so many ideas about the universe that it would even be difficult to write a blog about it. I think just consider DUST as an opportunity for the FPS genre evolution is already a good starting point. FPS tend to be all about shooting, which is fun and all, but I have loved games attempting to get out of the limits of the genre (such as Mirror's Edge on the PS3 for exemple, or minecraft like instances). As far as official input, it doesn't really matter to me right now. I'd love this conversation to be just about getting new ideas for breaking the limits of the game, weither it's possible in the near future or not. And Aeon, your precision on the limits of the structure size is great, and already easier to integrate to the game. It kinds of remind me of the shield walls of Cerberus in Mass Effect. It would be a great strategic implementation for the role of the LOGI in a fight. Keep em coming guys! It's more fun to create! |

But with some HP quota built in to not make them indestructible... |
