there should be some sort of weapon for better defense against heavies other than the fused grenade of which only comes with the mercenary pack. |

I mean most shot guns that can take out a heavy before he takes out you are expensive and most people can not or do not use grenades. Such as me I can't use mass drivers because I don't have the skill in the game or when playing. To include I have tried using shotguns but it's very complicated to get close enough to use the shotgun on a heavy unless you go up behind them. |

Don't you understand?
Everything has to be killable by a fellow with an AR or it's OP.
The AR is the one real role in the game.
Everything else is window dressing.
That's why dropship turret operators can be shot out of their seats, even though they run the turrets remotely via a screen.
If we let them be protected by the ships defenses (as HAV operators are) when the doors were closed that would be OP because it would require AV that the assault can't carry if he has his trusty AR on him.
Once you learn to think like a CoD player you will understand what DUST must become. |

1. No, if you can't take out a tech-equivalent Heavy with a shotgun, you are to blame, not the gun.
2. Once again, not the weapon's fault, the operator's fault. CCP can't change the operator. Yet.
3. If you don't have the skill for a weapon, get off your lazy arse and get the skill.
4. It's not complicated, just run towards his back while he is preoccupied. |

We've had a bit of a debate around Red zone snipers a while back, and while I still think you weren't actually arguing my points in that thread, I do see where you're coming from... there is indeed a lot of "hate" towards snipers and other niche roles. And that's just silly.
Obviously it's caused by the fact that niche roles have exaggerated strengths and weaknesses compared to the "standard" role (the run-of-the-mill assault character). People encounter the "strenght" of a niche role and lose, which they then blame on that role being overpowered. Of course, when they encounter the "weakness" of that role and win, it's because they are great players...
I understand your frustration and I can only hope that the CCP devs understand all this as well (I'm inclined to assume they do). As long as they do, and therefore maintain proper "balance", it's not all bad though. They are niche roles for a reason, if everyone started playing niche-roles... they wouldn't be niche-roles anymore. There is a reason most people use an AR, it's the basic soldier fit, it's what you should see most of. (I think that's true in real life as well, though I'm by no means an expert, but I think most soldiers use an assault rifle in modern armies, right?)

The only time I hate snipers is when you're playing a round of Ambush and half of the reds are snipers. Played a round where every single time I died it was due to a sniper and they weren't all in the same location / same line of fire. I eventually got my own sniper fit out (free one, I think) and started counter sniping but that was close to the end and only got 3 kills off of it.
The only time I hate heavies are at the exact moment they kill me and then I get over it again. If I had been with a squad or even around a couple of people it might not have happened. It was my fault for running around solo and taking on a heavy solo. |

1. Run away.
2. Flank his slowpoke twaddling waddle.
3. Run in a group. [like an AR user is suppose to]
4. Hop in a tank.
5. Hop on a turret installation.
6. Run away.
For the life of me I can't remember where it was but I saw a video that previewed DUST 514 play and strongly suggested you run away from certain opponents and situations. If I remember correctly it was an official CCP release. On the website maybe?

it has severe disadvantages outside of its optimal range, and as a LR user i'm not sure if i want the skills to stay broken or not because that thing is insane with broken skills (i don't have it but i've been killed by it plenty of times) and vyzion that is briliant |

yeah and were being attacked by the assaulters on here because the bluebarries on their teams don't do **** for anything, lol, everything that is able to kill an assaulter in less than 5 seconds in considered OP because they think the assault riffle is meant to be the weapon ruler. the only thing I think is OP is the MILITIA av equipment. |

Poor QQ Kitten, who doesn't read the Loading Screens. Doesn't understand that even CCP thinks you should retreat and consider a different target when your probability of success is too low. Which is easily determined by looking at the targeting information.
I have two shotguns. The one from the Merc Pack and the Militia Shotgun. I hunt Everything with them both in a Scout suit. I have used them with an Enforcer/Assault but it is not as successful, for me, in that combination.
If you are unable to use the Mass Driver why would you even Consider using a Shotgun? The Mass Driver allows rounds to fired from above, over obstacles and from enough distance that the damage from the typical HMG is reduced. And it works when using standard Assault Suits.
My alt runs a Heavy most of the time. And has been killed by everything sooner or later. Even some of those silly Nova Knives twice when his armor was extremely low. Shotguns are a distinct problem because even a good Heavy Suit can get dropped with one or two well placed shots from the rear.

Heavies are just fine as they are.
AR isnt supposed to out do an HMG at close range. in fact, if you do it right, you actually can beat Heavies with an AR, just takes a bit more thinkign than the average CoD fraghead is willing to do.
for sure i know there are MANY other ways to crack a heavy. i rather love MD, and LR, easy as can be when at the proper ranges...
i say MD because a direct hit with even the base model will wipe out a good chunk of heavy health. done it a few times.
skill up if you want a new idea, or try something new. i've played as a Heavy, and oh my god when you're alone you are the only thing people will shoot even if they are suddenly flanked. as a heavy you want to be walking in with a group, so that way you aren't the only target. if the issue you find is the group of nothing but heavies.... then figure something new out |
