I don't care about features I just want the game to not run at 15 FPS. |

yeeeaaah... any game running sub 30 fps is pretty bad. I get it's beta, but I'm hoping next update fixes this. |

I ordered the parts from NAPA and a few other sources. We have to wait on the hemi 5.7 liter and a few aftermarket upgrades to make that baby growl. We have to be careful though and need to reinforce the frame before we crank that beast over so it doesn't break its own mounts from torque. |

What are the odds they use the Carbon engine for the PS4 version.
As far as them talking to Gakai and trying to see what's possible and stuff, I didn't take that as streaming the PS3's Cell version at all. You have 250 districts coming as soon as we get Planetary Conquest. Later that will expand to the thousands upon thousands of planets in New Eden. So unless you want to make every planet look exactly the same, that's going to take up a lot of memory. I was thinking as it more along the lines of streaming new parts of the New Eden you have not been to while it downloads them to your background, or something like that. Since you're generally going to stay withing the region your corporation controls, it would be like a marry-go-round of downloading and deleting whatever is relevant to your corp, all done behind the scenes and streaming what isn't there yet. But that's just speculation. |

Create a Netflix of gaming, and allow you to stream games as they're downloading and seamlessly transition when it's down. What was weird is they announced these features yet said they won't be available when it launches. |

No it won't you can't have the same game on 2 different consoles running 2 completely different engines. Did you watch the PS4 presentations? PS3 games will not run on the PS4 unless it's through Gaikai which will be an emulator for PS3 games to run on the PS4.
Dust 514 is a PS3 exclusive and with the Planetside devs all but actually out right saying Planetside 2 will be on the PS4 we have a better chance of seeing that game on the PS4 well before Dust. |

A for the 15 fps issues that has much more to do with optimization passes yet to be done. |

Because the hardware on one is so extremely different you have actually have to create a new set of instructions of how the software utilizes that hardware.
Cel Processor was such a unique monster of a hardware that there is litterally nothing else similar to it in the world yet or never will be again. Dead end tech. Now lets say getting a game on the xbox 360 to run on the ps4, that is more likely possible due to similar instruction set. |

And now to explain my defense of UE3.
Speaking as one who has spent a lot of quality time tinkering and making things with, UE3 is really an incredibly easy tool to work with.
It's also very easy to have access not only to the tools, but also a massive community with massive amounts of information and tools to help you with work.
Seriously, here's the link. http://www.unrealengine.com/en/udk/downloads/
Give yourself a month of two hours a day, 5-6 days a week just tinkering with it and using the community as a guide, and I guarantee you, you could be creating the game you always wanted to make but were unable to, by the end of the month. It's really just that damned simple to use.
However I do understand and sympathize to an extent with many of you on the general quality, or lack thereof in the gameplay and stability of the game.
HOWEVER
This I do not believe to be the fault of the engine!
It is the fault of the Playstation and the capabilities, and the lack thereof that hinder the game. Let me try to explain.
When the system tries to run a game, and especially an online game, like say COD, it has to take into consideration a few things and open up "packs" that contain these things so they can be used in the game. These include the map, different weapons, different attachments, kill streaks, and a couple perks that might affect your characters physical performance.
Now think in terms of Dust's pack size. It has to load in packs that contain the randomly generated terrain, (eventually) over 100 different weapons, and eventually each will have different attachments, vehicles each with dozens of turrets, both large and small, and over 100 modules that affect their performance and survivability, each one fitted uniquely, dropsuits that have over 100 different modules that affect your performance and survivability, again each one fitted uniquely, and 100's of skills, each different for each player, several of which have to be used in conjunction with the skills of the other players and calculated accordingly on the fly.
Dust has so much it has to process at any given time that quite frankly, it's incredible they've gotten this far on the limitations the PS3 infringes, (256 MB RAM? You can buy the Raspberry Pi computer for 35$ and it has double that, or upgrade my desktop to 8 gigs for $40.)
Now don't take this as a 'Make It On PC' post, it's not, I would much rather this be on my PS3 rather than have to upgrade my current desktop to be able to run this game in such a manner that I would not be hindered.
It just irks me whenever someone says, "look at this engine and how sparkly it is, change the current engine to that engine NAOW!" |

Most of the people in this thread seem to think that you can simply change an engine by typing a few lines of code and suddenly rewrite everything that has been made for the past two years. That is incorrect, and as unviable as changing a gasoline car's engine to an electric one. And besides, as people above have already mentioned, UE3 and UE4 engines are doing more than well for the limited hardware the PS3 has, and that the low framerate and lag issues are more a question of optimization.
And besides, what really matters are the aesthetics(actualy design of the game and how it looks) rather than the graphics(the graphical fidelity of the game, ie. pixels). Sure, DUST 514 might not have the same amount of graphical fidelity like Battlefield 3 or Crysis 3, but the aesthetics are really well designed, and overall the game world looks quite nice and futuristic, if a bit brutal and harsh. |

you dont pile on graphics and polish till you work out all the bugs because doing so comes with its OWN set of problems. theres no need to get a new engine since they can upgrade to UE4 easily port the UE4 build to ps4 from its current state and then graphically tweak it to make use of the ps4's hardware when the time comes. |
