you need more hp like around 500+
the charge rifle is like the name say you charge up the shot before releasing it, the other rifles fire instantly |

Head shots do more damage. Charge rifles also do more damage in one shot, but the rate of fire is bad because you have to charge them. The other rifles do less damage, but you can fire off multiple shots almost consecutively. |

Sniper rifles do significantly more damage with head shots (I do not know the exact number but I know it is the highest other then the scrambler pistol, a guesstimate would be around 175-200% + damage) So someone with a charge sniper rifle @260ish damage with two complex damage modifiers can easily drop someone with one head shot who has 320 hp. The best sniper rifle depends on your style, the charge sniper rifle has high damage but require a charge time so the rate of fire is slow, the tactical sniper rifle has low damage but a high rate of fire and the regular sniper rifle is right in between them both. Me personally I like the nt-511 sniper rifle (regular) is fairly cheep and does good damage. |

at this time the charge is the strongest and best imho. 266 base damage
+ 25% with weaponry 5 + damage mods + sniper rifle proficiency which is 3% damage per level
One can easily hit over 300 - 400
Think about the Thale sniper rifle which I believe is 323 base . Weaponry lv 5 gets you to around 400 and you need sniper rifle proficiency lvl 3 to use them, which is another 9% added extra damage

Weaponry level 5 only gives 10% (2% each level) not 25%.
On my sniper fit I use the charge sniper rifle with 3 complex damage mods (stacking penalty actually does apply, the fitting screen readout is wrong) so my weaponry at level 5 I'm doing somewhere around 365 damage a shot (266 * 1.1 * 1.1 * 1.08 * 1.05, I think this is the correct formula). I could one shot you with a body shot but fear not I mostly counter snipe when I do break out that fit. |

Anmol Singh wrote:? math?? Well the first thing to know is that Sniper Rifles get a 195% damage modifier on headshots.
Even without taking any skills into account, 266 damage goes up to 518.7 - this means a fully-charged shot from a Charge Sniper is easily far beyond your ability to survive with only 320 HP.
Weaponry skill gives a damage buff, Sniper Rifle Proficiency (which can be trained after maxing out Sniper Rifle Operations) gives a damage buff and damage mods also improve your damage output. Each level of a skill adds to the previous. If you have level 3 in a skill that gives a 5% bonus, that gives 15% total. The different skill bonuses multiply together instead of adding though. Basically, instead of adding all the numbers together then adding that percentage to your base damage, each one is applied separately.
If you had 2 skills that give 15% extra damage, and a 10% damage modifier, you might think that will give you +40% damage, right? It doesn't. You add 15% for the first skill, then add another 15% to that result, then add the 10% for the damage modifier onto that figure to get the total.
Just to demonstrate how many people expect the numbers to work:
100 + (15 + 15 + 10)% = 100 + 40% = 100 x 1.4 = 140
That was not how DUST works. Below is how you SHOULD calculate your percentage modifiers:
100 + 15% + 15% + 10% = 100 x 1.15 x 1.15 x 1.1 = 100 + 45.475% = 100 * 1.45475 = 145.475
The above lists multiple ways to reach the correct results, just so you can figure out which option makes more sense to you. All the listed calculations are correct, and if you had skills at appropriate levels to get the numbers I used, and a weapon that dealt 100 damage per shot, that would be the correct method to calculate your weapons total damage per shot.
Using the numbers on the Charge Sniper Rifle, this ends up with the following:
Weaponry 5 (2% per level x 5 levels = 10%) Sniper Rifle Proficiency 5 (3% per level x 5 levels = 15%) No damage mods (3 to 10% depending on modifier used x 0 = 0)
266 base damage = 336.49 actual damage per shot. Higher than your 320 HP.
Now lets calculate headshot damage on top of that.
336.49 damage x 195% = 656.155
Even a standard Sniper Rifle with 190 base damage, and only Weaponry 3 with no other damage buffs will hit for more than 390 damage on a headshot. Add a Basic Damage Modifier and that increases to over 400 damage. |

^ What Thumb said
A charge sniper with weaponry 5 and 2 complex mods can reach ~340 damage (my math assumes base * 1.1 * 1.09 * 1.09) Plenty enough to oneshot a non-heavy with a body shot unless they put some SP to shield/armor skills, or use a module or two. [And that's finally becoming the case, I'm getting more and more targets that still have a sliver of health after I hit them with my cheap fit.]
Though personally, I prefer my one-shot charge for standard work (it's a bit harder for me to double tap a moving target), and a tac sniper for when I need to countersnipe a sharp sniper. The charge wait has it's disadvantages when an enemy has you in their sights. |

Forgetting the Thale....
Forgetting damage mods...
Forgetting skill mods...
Forgetting headshots
But sure a normal snipe round to your foot shoudn't kill you assuming full armor/shield
I forget what the modifier for headshots on a sniper rifle are, 150%? or was it 200% |

FYI, a charged sniper rifle can fire a round at half charge or when fully charged. A half charged shot just does half damage, and makes for a good way to get a follow up shot.
I routinely one shot scouts and STDs (some ADVs as well depending on their load out) with a charged sniper rifle, and only have sniper lv 4. I do use 3 complex L damage mods tho.
PRO suits and heavies are typically 3 shots.
I usually only get headshots when counter-sniping just to make sure. Snipers tend to tank their defenses so you want ot make sure you get a bulls eye. For people on the run, if the first shot doesn't take them down, i am always already charging up for the next shot to half shot them and finish them off.
I'll warn you tho, once you go charged you never go back. The other rifles are just plain inferior. |

I'm an ambush sniper and charge sniper rifle there (for me) is totaly useles. Im pretty good shooter and usualy headshoot isn't a problem (even on sprinter targets) but not with charge. Ambush smipers have to kill a ton to worth even be on the map and charge is just too slow for that. Use tactical sniper rifles if you are a good shooter and you will eat even the proto folks as well. Oh, and I only have 2mill SP. |

I used to feel the same way. Once you get comfortable with the charging mechanic, it becomes a far more efficient for killing. |
