Dr Debo Galaxy wrote:If you are a straight white middle to upper class male you have no idea what discrimination really is. Unless you've been through a particularly confused bi-curious phase in which you thought you were gay for a while, or you're a post-op formerly lesbian white female, or you grew up in the wrong part of town and have only recently made it into the middle class, or you've got that skin condition Michael Jackson had and you used to be black...
Or you have a name that's easy for someone to mishear and think is a female name, or a soft enough voice that you often get called "ma'am" on the phone or in the drive thru, or if your primary online ID is one with "doll" as part of the name and people frequently take that to mean you're a girl. Or you have a girlfriend and you get to see and hear some of the discrimination that happens to her. Especially if you've ever dated someone outside of your own demographic (apart from the "male" part, obviously).
There are plenty more possible ways someone in that demographic can be targets (usually incorrectly) for discrimination. You may not see it being directed at yourself quite as often, but you WILL see it occasionally.
Then of course there's all the political correctness that gets taken way too far and your cousin ends up being bumped off the shortlist for a mechanic's apprenticeship for almost everything that ISN'T a straight, white, middle-class male because the people running the program are afraid of a potential lawsuit from someone with less relevant qualifications. |

this is the heart of the issue, it seems like a meaningless semantic but it is far from it. taking some one **** is some thing we all deal with and is part of how we interact, how ever taking **** because someone has singled you out due to the fact that you fall into to a set of people is not acceptable any where any time. What, how can you be sure? Seems obvious to me they did it because she was a sniper. Based on this post, I'm going to make a point of asking all Snipers to make me sandwiches now.
EDIT: Except my girlfriend, because she upstages sandwiches on a regular basis. And is scary with a bo staff. And I'm glad we share a PS3 so I never have to try and hunt her, because she's not an easy target for Shotgunners. Also, she hurt me already tonight, so I'd rather not get beaten up any more. |
