C6 will no longer be accessible in the release. However, we will see if we can reproduce this kind of issue.
Thank you! |

Thanks. I had the same issue today on the same map but different location... The culprit was either in F4, or F5... floating again. I seem to get the floating issues.... maybe it's me?? |

Are they floating while on terrain every time or on some other form of object, like the big pointy rocks? |

It seems to be on mountain tops and ridges entirely and my view is always through the sniper scope. I have yet to see this issue on solid level ground but I have indeed seen it at several different mountain locations this past month. Thanks for looking into it. |

From what I've observed, the terrain appears to look different looking up at the mountain from what it looks like when you're actually up there. Theres a couple of rocks that jut out that I've used to give myself cover which I can't seem to locate when looking at it... I've postulated that the hit detection issues in this scenario are related to the fact that shooters are actually hitting terrain and not the sniper, however as the terrain is transparent it looks like there is a floating sniper behind no cover. Just a thought. |

This might be an artifact of the Level Of Detail system. As you are further away from terrain and other objects, its level of detail goes down. So the other players and objects are on the collision of the full detail spots for them, but you are are seeing the low level of that detail, which will not always match up.
I'll ask around about this, and see if it is intended that the LOD does not change when you view through a scope. |

That makes perfect sense come to think of it, The view UP TO C6 [for example} through the scope is pretty basic, but when you're up there it has lots more bumps and jutting rocks. I'm putting my money on this. Sniper scope LOD.
Glad you're looking into this. I have to add though, this is really important stuff. Each time a sniper fires he gives his position away. Giving a heads up to a sniper you're shooting at... gets you killed. Sniper battle outcomes between a couple pros are swayed by this and in turn a whole match. |

This would certainly explain the hit issues on manus peak with a static sniper, but I find that I often have these hit detection issues on people throughout all maps and in any situation.... the dreaded blue shield flash of ineffectiveness

if you aim for their heads and just a little bit above so the reticule flashes red and then white you'll kill them.. kill them dead.
the terrain acts a little weird with the bullets, but when the reticule flashes like that the bottom of the bullet hits the top of their head poking out. |

That was a perfect example. To make matters worse eventually the sniper getting shot at figures out where the bullets are coming from and replies. I'm not sure how difficult it's going to be to enhance level of detail through the sniper scopes but as you can see, without it.... it's tough cookies. |

that video is nice and shows it is LOD. It also happens in D3, but people can aslo hide INSIDE the terrain there |

Thank you! All for the best, but it brought some good times. I un-redlined my team (but alas--it was too late) by driving a starter fit off that cliff, through the enemy redzone, into A |

I believe the root cause of this is the LoD bug. The precision of the 3D model should go up when looking through sniper scope, but it often fails to do so. This means you see the same 3D model as with plain eye, just way bigger, and thus the terrain is hugely different from what you'd see if you were closer.
This also means sniper duels are matter of luck, as your often have line of sight on the image you see while bullets can't hit and vice versa. |

I'm thoroughly enjoying DUST, but hit detection seems to be a lingering issue. Recently in a match, I tried every sniping spot on "line harvest" with a line of sight shot at a sniper in F/G5 (i.e. the south mountain), emptied multiple sniper clips across different lives, all with shield flash, and the sniper took no damage.
I tried manually reloading, moving in and out of zoom, and, as mentioned, changing locations all over the map.
player name, I believe, was something like sparaticusmaaki (that's not quite right but I've searched and i can't seem to find him) he was a member of the Corp: EVE Protection Agency
As I said, I really enjoy Dust, but if sniper hit detection remains as glaring as it currently seems to be, it won't be much fun to play.
EDIT: I apologize, I didn't realize this was a feedback area only for Manus Peaks, I will repost in the appropriate section. |
