I've posted on this subject before and will again here.
Tanks are tanks and are supposed to be tough, no doubt. That is what they are.
Because of this they have the ability to single-handedly decide the outcome of a match. Any tanker that says otherwise is absolutely lying.
Because of this strength, obviously most of, if not the entire team opposing the tank is going to attempt to take it out. But look at what you just said here. The OP even admitted this. He has THE WHOLE Team on the other side ATTEMPTING to take him out. You've monopolized the entire battle field even if you don't kill anyone....and believe me, you are killing people. If you weren't you wouldn't be rolling a tank. If you look at a leaderboard at the end of any match (esp a lopsided victory one) you'll see that the guys that are 20+/0-2 in K/D ratio were rolling in tanks. It was either that or that person knows where the spawn points are and was camping them repeatedly. Long story short, if I manage to take out your 1 tank, you've probably already killed me 3-4 times in the process and most likely have killed 15 other people during that time as well.
To have that kind of power it absolutely should take you tons of SP and $ to obtain. There should be in game infantry options to take you out. But let me tell you something from experience. The Swarm Launchers can do only two things, target installations and vehicles. It is absolutely useless against infantry because you can't even target them. They only do armor damage (at least the start up versions anyway) so to kill the right kind of tank with one easily will take 6-7 shots. It only holds two shots per clip, takes a decade and a half to lock on and reload, and meanwhile the tank or his entourage has killed me if I am lucky enough to get off one shot. "Well, spec up then!" would be your reply. Well that's all fine an good, but just like you've been grinding away just to be able to get yourself in a decent tank, I've been grinding away just to get the ability to not be completely decked out in malitia gear for every item I am able to equip. As a sniper, I would tend to think I am actually investing in things to make me a better sniper, not a tank killer. And I would venture to guess 95% of new players are in the same boat.
Then there are the shield tanks, which require a different weapon to kill, and guess what? Unless you picked a Sentinel as your start up build, you don't have access to that gun. You again have to invest in the ability to actually equip one, and then invest even more just to have a chance to even be somewhat decent with it.
This same issue goes for the AV grenades, not to mention the fact that I actually have to get somewhat near the tank in order to hit one. Guess what? You also have the ability to move. So all you have to do to avoid my grenade is move in a certain direction away from the grenade. Seems pretty simple to me.
Lastly, if one tank isn't bad enough, I have had matches where the other team has three tanks on the field all at once in an Ambush. One tank is enough of a challenge to kill. Three makes it absolutely impossible. |

Got pushed back by a Proto Forge in less than 8 seconds, 6500 shields (With Surge Hardener on) gone in 3 shots.. I was lucky to get my reps on and reverse out the way I came, hell, he was taking out the infantry around my tank too xD
So he "pushed you back" but you backed away and didn't get blown up. Then what happened? How did this story end? You probably rolled over him and killed him and 20+ of the clones on his side. What was your K/D ratio at the end of the match? I mean honestly.
See, this is the thing that these tank people never talk about. There is a reason why you are rolling in a tank. They absolutely own the field. There is a reason why on some skirmishes you hide them out of bounds (especially the defender side of Line Harvest Skirmish so that nobody can hit them and have 3-4 snipers sitting there next to you and probably are one yourself. Because if anybody does manage to find your tank sitting there with a swarm launcher, you know as infantry I can't hit you and you get an easy shot on a Heavy, slow moving target that can't hit you and if it comes any closer will time out and die in the out of bounds marker.
They don't tell you that they go 20+/0, 30+/0 and even seen them go 40+/0 on some maps. They don't tell you that they get together on Manus Peak Ambush and roll 3-4 tanks at the same time.
And yes, I've seen tanks die at the hands of stupid drivers. Driving it head first into a building in the middle of 3 other tanks isn't going to end well. No disrespect to a person who can drive one skillfully around a map and not run it into terrain that will make it get stuck or get damaged. What I don't like and I think is absolute garbage is trying to tell me that tanks are not powerful enough, and that infantry stand a ghost of a chance. I call BS on that and I am sure there are many out there that will agree with me. Tanks do not belong on Ambush maps, esp not more than one of them at a time on the same side. |
