newb but don't flame.
imo snipers should have a tracer ( all other guns do) and they should have to consider travel time of the bullet.
its my 4th day so you all will have a better insight than me, but ill share with you my limited experience. on the city based maps they don't seem that unbalanced and do have their place in the support role, but on the open plains they are really are to strong and affectively leave there with no other type of gun to be used. ok i may be a newb so getting 1 shot is more of a problem for me than most but ill go through how i started to use a weapon i did not want to play.
i found myself being farmed on the same map time after time trying to get to the ABC, the enemy was a vast distance to myself and i had no idea where i was being killed from. beyond that it seemed as if it was one shot one kill and no matter how much i weeved, sprinted and jumped it was 1 shot 1 kill so i was raging. anyway not being one to rage quit i thought if you can't beat them join them, so i got the starter assault sniper fit on and tried my luck.
Ok sniping vs snipers for my first go i learned alot. if your spawn point ( only 1 availible as we were being pawned) is covered by them you will die soon not far from where you spawn, which makes the rest of the battle pretty pointless. aiming while standing is not great but not awful. you can see them so you can fight back, whoot.
after a few more battles i also found out that, when you fire the enemy does not realise unless you hit them, all those times i died it was not because only supper leet players are snipers that have a 1 shot 1 kill ratio. i could be reasonable close fire off my clips reload and repeat and if i missesd every shot they would be none the wiser, which seemed a little silly. on the flip side when i did hit most of the time they would still have no idea where i was.
tbh a snipers only fear is another sniper providing they have a reasonalbe range difference from the rest, as atm they are almost invisible and don't have much need to move which is the biggest flaw with the type. sniping should be either about supporting fire where your not primary as all the big guns infront of you are taking the flak ( i.e. city battles) or shoot and move as it is ment to be on the open spaces maps . the problem is that there is little reason to move if you have a nice spot where its hard for the enemy snipers to see you and your far away enough not give away your position to the grunts on the open spaces maps. which makes it not very skillfull atall unless your talking about miss ratio while doing your farming.
to the next point, although at range its not simple to hit a running jumping merc, its still considering the risk vs reward aspect of sniping too easy. IRL bullets have travel time and it should be the same in the game. if someone is sitting still or running straight at you you will still have a good kill rate, if they are running from left to right you should have to consider how far ahead you need to aim infront of them which takes real skill and should reduice the kill rate of mercs covering open ground wisely.
