I've never been a fan of these arbitrary forcefields that kill you. It's cheap, lazy, lame and kills any immersion. It causes people to whine about snipers. It most likely causes lots of unnecessary deaths.
If you must have borders you should make them with terrain and structures to contain the battlefield. There should be a reason you can't pass.
-Massive canyons -Massive mountains -Major automated defensive buildings/roadblocks -Destroyed bridges -At some point bodies of water -Flaming crashed MCC -Destroyed buildings and debris -Vegetation -Lava fields/rivers -Marked landmine fields -Irradiated areas
I'm sure I could come up with more....

I think dropping an OB on anyone in the red zone for too long would make more sense than sudden death. |

Dropships are the way to circumvent 90% of what you said, the red line is the simplest and most effective way of keeping maps contained, besides maps will get bigger in the future so there will be plenty of space |

My opinion is that the redline outer boundary should remain, but any space an enemy can occupy should should be able to as well (at least in everything but High-sec battles). |

Red line is a funny thing. When you vie to leave highly unsafe battle zone and think of hikinging in the mountains (you know, to catch some breath ) suddenly find yourself in another unsafe zone It looks your character is safe in Mercs Quarters only
I think it is implemented to ensure players stay in the battlefield to expose as much bugs as possible during beta. Imagine how slow battles would be if players roamed open space instead of focusing on mission objectives . I guess more people feel need to explore maps (including myself ) and this will be addressed in final release i hope... |

the redline is the only way that you are going to stop spawn camping. trust me, when 2 heavies are sitting below th MCC, you'll cut your arm off to get it back |

Really OP, just adjust your gameplay a little bit more. For now that red zone has a purpose and it serves it well.
Althought I like the idea of getting auto-orbital'd for straying too far into it. Definitely would make for some laughs. |

Yeah, the red zone works for now.
I'd appreciate an in-game explanation for the sudden death but it's not a priority at this stage.
Do we even know whether the red zone will exist in other game modes? |

LOL redline is there to give a team that is losing badly a fighting chance for a come back. I heard that before the redline, the entire team would camp the MCC with everything they had. It's not something i would ever want to experience. |

We could be like most UnReal games and use the Invisible Wall. Actually most game engines for that matter. Nothing spoils the immersion for me than invisible walls and corny mountains that block the Sun or a deep chasm that let the core of the planet shine out.
No thanks. This is a battle field and is being fought within an agreed upon set of constraints. Why only have 80 clones for an Ambush? Or just 150 for Skirmish? Immersion would suggest a treaty of some sort. Without some limit we could have 1000 clones versus 35 depending on how much either side could afford.
I don't care as a mercenary, I just have to take out the opposition and make a profit.
Edit: from a technical standpoint the Red Lines (two sets, one for Attackers and one for Defenders) are cheap, quick to implement and even quicker to change. Mess up boxing in a map with mountains and that requires huge resources to change. Not gonna happen. This is a low resources game I would surmise. |

You know, I'd actually be ok with that. Only for FW, and Corp Battles of course, not Pub Matches. Allowing Corps to bring in extra clones onto a battlefield could create an interesting dynamic. Espescially if they have to pay for Biomass. It might be another interesting way of bringing Alliances into Dust. One Corp doesn't have the ISK to go up against one of the larger Corps, so they form an alliance with one or two others in order to even the odds. |
