What would you think of it? I hear a lot of QQ about forge guns, so instead of nerfing the poor beast, how about a 2~3 second long tracer? It would make forge gunners easier to spot by tankers, and also make forge gun snipers easier to spot for infantry. It wouldn't hurt the forge gun's stats at all, but would make it easier for vehicles and infantry to spot them, thereby making the forge gun harder to use without actually nerfing it.
On the other side of the aisle, it would also give forge gunners a better feeling of having actually fired something. When I fire a forge gun, the round flies away so fast that it almost feels like I'm firing off invisible rounds. A cool looking blue tracer would be awesome, maybe with some kind of static/electric effect crackling in the rounds wake.
On a side note, red forge rounds with a black center would look SOO freaking sweet! With black and red static sparking out the back of the round.... *drool*
Anyway, thoughts? Suggestions? Think you have a better color scheme for the forge rounds? Think it's a bad idea? Please explain your reasoning instead of tossing pointless insults. |

It's still nerfing the forge gun. Stop crying to get heavies nerfed to irrelevancy or go back to Call of Duty. |

I don't think that this would be a good idea.
It would seem that having a tracer from a sniper is sensical, because the sniper can relocate rather quickly to avoid counter fire.
Having a fat suit be traced back creates a situation where you pop out, get one shot off and eat a tank round. Now I am sure that vehicle people would love it, but it wouldn't be balanced. |

I'm not set on the time either, I'd be fine with it being anything from 0.5 seconds up to a max of 3, I was just giving some parameter ideas for discussion since I'm bored.

But AV players are supposed to be protected by their squad, so a tracer wouldn't be that bad for people who use them only when in a squad. It would only be a problem to people who are running solo, and pulling out a forge gun is NEVER a good idea when running solo unless you have ninja skills with an SMG/pistol in a fat suit.
And as I said before, the tracer could be shorter than I mentioned in the the OP, hell a .5 second tracer would be fine, just something to show a huge super-heated round had just come from the general direction.
Just to be clear here, I have no issue with forge guns. I love them. I just think they need some love from the devs too. It would feel SO much more satisfying to fire off a shot if it had a pretty blue tracer trailing out behind it. |

I wasn't insinuating that you didn't like the forge gun, I just don't think it really adds to the weapon in a meaningful manner, while at the same time adding a negative where one is not needed.
From my perspective as a heavy, I don't need a tracer, so it would seem to only benefit the people I am shooting at. I agree that a cool looking visual would be satisfying on some level, but I would not want a fancy visual that might cost me a fitting. |

well considering forge guns hav greater range than blasters its difficult to hurt a forge gunner atits effective range, also at edge of blasters range does very little damage to a heavy, therefore its only possible to kill forge gunner at range with a rail gun which you dont get enough time to aim, charge and shoot in the time it takes heavy to pop behind cover, fire then hide as they recharge forge gun |

Not the least of which is the fact that it can be used to help with lining up shots on a weapon that has no ADS view. It would make it easier to see exactly where your shot landed after the explosion clears so that you can adjust your aim accordingly for your next shot, which I see as a HUGE bonus. |

I get what youGÇÖre saying, I simply donGÇÖt agree with it.
This is actually a weapon I am familiar with, by no means a subject matter expert though. It is easy enough to judge your shot from the explosion. This is a straight shot weapon; there is no curve, drop or anything to take into consideration. You shoot at the tank and there is an explosion to the left, aim right. Now, I am not saying cosmetically it wouldnGÇÖt look good, I think it would look great if done right. I just donGÇÖt agree with your argument that forge gunners would get something useful out of it, the only benefit would come to the tankers.
Now, if you changed it so forge guns charged faster, but had the tracer, then I think it would be a fair trade.

Actually, I think that is a much better solution.
Brighter charge, bigger blast, and residual charge around the weapon after firing.
All three together should make it very easy to spot the forge gunner, while not providing a direct shooting line to them.

I think this is a terrible idea. The current trail is visible (albeit hard to see) and an additional 2-3 seconds is a LONG LONG time. Forge guns already light up like a Christmas tree when they charge. This addition would make them instant slaughter to infantry and vehicles all over the map.
The issue is that when people get hit from a forge is deals explosive damage, which results in your whole hud lighting up. Rather than Nerf the Forge I think we need a general improvement to the hud.
Might though was this: when you are hit by explosive damage have the hud light up as it currently does but have a stronger indicator pointing to the center of the explosion. This would allow tanks, dropships and infantry to get a better idea of where an explosion comes from without creating some crazy trail.
The neat balancing factor to this would be that explosions could give you false positives on direction if say a mass driver round flies over your head and lands behind you. You saw the round come from in front but the hud indicator would point to the center of the explosion behind you.
EDIT: I like the idea of seeing the slug, better visual effects is always a plus. |
