...the dual shock or the Move?
Using either of these renders me practically helpless. I admit to not being a maestro with a controller. I do just fine tho using the dual shock on other FPS type games and I'm doing fine using the Move Sharpshooter in Killzone but here... forget it, I'm dead, dead, and dead again all over again.
If the developers wanna make this MMO appealing and the go to choice for the broader PS3 shooter MMO gamers they're gonna have to fix this. |

the problem is not located between your controller and the server.
it's located between your chair and the controller.

I've tried everything and at this point, I've given up. Getting killed over and over again while trying to tweak the settings is absolutely not fun at all. If there was a training/spar mode where noobs like me could learn and practice without the frustration of getting killed over and over again while trying to figure these things out, that would help.
I've retreated to KB/M which I do better with but I'd rather use a controller, preferably the Move Sharpshooter. Makes it seem more authentic using a controller like what you're holding on the screen. I realize this is still a beta and the Devs are working on getting Dust ready for prime time. And, i'm like two weeks old here too. So there's that. I'm just hoping that the devs are working to improve it. They're going to have to realize that they will lose a lot of newcomers who will get so frustrated that they will delete the game and find something else to play that's less frustrating. I read these forums trying to learn how to play this game and this controller issue comes up over and over again so it's not just me. |

I am coming from the PC and have played there FPS games for many years now.
Last year I got the Xbox360 and Battlefield 3 was very hard, it's getting better but sometimes I really don't have the nerves for it.
For DUST, I borrowed the PS3 from a friend of mine and at beginning it was the same experience with the xbox. Now, to my self astonishing, its working really good now and my K/D ratio is normally between 2 and 3.
For me, it helped adjusting the sensitivity not that high. In the mids you can better avoid the "shakyness" in the heat of the combat. Maybe doesnt work for you, for me it did.
To the DEVs: acceleration is needed, thanks |

Start a Skirmish game and stay in the area where you initially spawned. It is a somewhat safe area, the Red Zone for the opposing team. |

Dust is my first console shooter ever. When I first started I walked around like an angry drunk bear dancing on stilts.
These days I'm faring rather well even in 1-vs-1 situation. It's just practice.
P.S.: I'm fairly sure using KB/M is still easier than the controller, judging by how badly I can aim at distant enemies, but it's not really necessary since Dust is all about situational awareness anyway. |

Practice. Report back after your first 1000 hours for further direction and helpful advice.

^ That's (mostly) comedy. One of the things a lot of us(but not all) are arguing for with CCP is much better controller mechanics.
Here's a current thread that CCP is prolly paying attention to - it would be great if you could give them your impressions & feedback there.

I haven't had a problem. It's a matter of picking your target and not running out like a dog chasing after a car. Stay back and look for the enemy. Find out where the heaviest fighting is going on, and if you can, flank them and do as much damage as you can, before backing off to eat at their other side. This is not your atypical FPS, you need to utilize tactics and have a plan of attack. |

After 3 days of actual gameplay, I figured out how to aim and shoot. At first it was just pure luck if I hit anybody.
Aiming with the L1 button improved my accuracy so much, it felt like I had upgraded to a new weapon
Not sure if you are having the same problem, but I thought I should mention it.

You may laugh about this. Probably obvious to everyone? But I have never played a game on any console, until I played Deus Ex Human revolution, just to get familiar with the PS3 controller. So I could focus on Dust 514 gameplay, and not on what button to press. I am a long time Eve player, started in May 2009. I'm not a PvP'er. But man, is Dust 514 a lot of fun? !!!

The only issues i got with the aiming is that mouse movement is very very slow, normally i use 1cm of my mousepad to do a 180 degree, here i need to use like 10-15cm to turn around and 5-8cm to track a moving target.
But my guess is that its intentional to keep KB/M semi handicapped. |
