The faster a player is moving, the fewer shots you fire will register. The hitbox definitely is not in sync with the player model.
Here's a slow-mo clip of this occurring with a strafing scout player. This occurs with all suits in pretty much every gunfight but not always to this extent. I could randomly choose any gunfight from my recordings to play back in slow-mo and there would be about a 20% chance that the hit detection would look as bad as this and a 90% chance that at least 1 of my shots doesn't register (these numbers are probably pretty generous too).

In some cases this can happen with players who are holding completely still. Here's a pretty severe example of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=mE5CA-ynkrM#t=290s (go to 4:50 if it doesn't automatically start you there)
As you can see, neither me nor my teammate could damage this guy while he was hacking the objective. |

Yes, thank you for posting this video... I have had the same issue while trying to kill someone at an objective...more reason why CCP needs to get hit detection zeroed in and then worry about the other stuff.... |

Indeed it seems to be worse when facing scouts, i had the same experience with a shotgun user. Nice to see a video of this issue. |

this happens with everything. it seems like half the rounds do this on the AR and shotgun. hit detection is broken.
i think once they fix it there will be a lot more deaths and the proto-users will complain because a magazine will actually be able to drop them instead of half the rounds not counting. |

Please fix this CCP, I've been running ambush as a sniper a lot recently and I've noticed that in some games I'm lucky if 50% of my shots actually deal damage when the blue shield flashes. This is becoming almost unplayable! |

Most people who know what they're talking about agree that hit detection is almost certainly handled server side.
The blue shield flash is a client-side "this is where your shot will go" marker so you can see immediately. But after that indicator, Your position and the angle you're aiming at is sent to the game server and if your shot doesn't line up with the position the server has for your target, then you didn't hit.
I don't know if this has been confirmed, but I'm certain it hasn't been officially denied by the devs, and it's been cited as a probably cause of this issue in many such places.
If your target is laggy and you're not, then the server will keep you consistently updated on their actual location, so your accurately-aimed shots will hit the target consistently. If you're laggy, regardless of how laggy or otherwise your target is, you're going to be seeing where the server tells you they are a bit late. Usually, even when you're lagging, the delay is fairly consistent within a match, so if you can figure out roughly how laggy you are, you can adjust your aim to account for it, by aiming a little ahead of a moving target (basically meaning you have to lead your shots to account for network travel time instead of in-game projectile travel time). |

Let's stop all the wars and turn the World's economy on its head because your enjoyment is dropping.
Oh right, this very problem has been around since long before Chromosome and it is still not solved. One might even think that it isn't an easy solution even though the Devs are more than a little aware of it. It is a problem but the biggest one is the constant droning of the non-believers insisting that something be done Today, just for Them.
It is being done. It is not an easy task. We will see the fix when they announce it and Not Before then.
Otherwise, this is how it is. Adjust your actions and for the Sake Of All Mankind please keep QQ about it, which now requires Videos! Without yet more evidence of something that has been around for many months and many releases it might just go away and we wouldn't want that.
The world obviously doesn't have enough QQ to fill all the oceans yet. This Forum is going to fix that by the Name Of The Great Kitten In The Box.
Of course, the fact that the Sniping issue is made worse because a Significant portion of the QQ Snipers can't seem to realize that just because you get a Chevron doesn't mean you actually have a valid shot. I have sat and watched their bullets hit the ground that I am sitting Behind and wished I could hear their QQ splashing into the Kiddy Pool they are surely sitting in.
Wait until Bullet Drop and Bullet Travel Time are added. Their QQ will flood the planet, Frak simply filling the oceans. |

People like you are a tax on the community and hinder any productive discussion. Please, for the sake of everyone trying to use their experience to provide value to CCP, get off your high horse and keep your mouth shut unless you have something helpful to add. I know this is a beta, and I know nothing is ever fixed instantaneously. That is not what this is about.
In relation to my initial post, this is the first time I have mentioned this issue on the forums and was by no means a demand for a fix instantly, which, if your english comprehension was up to scratch, you would be better able to appreciate. It was an expression of my in game experience, and an emphasis on the importance of an issue; not a "QQ" post. It might be surprising for you to learn that posting this in the "Technical Support/Bugs" section is where this information is supposed to be posted!
Back on topic,

Thanks mate, this all makes sense. Are you suggesting it's more likely to be a hardware performance issue or network speed? I also think that there may be issues with terrain recognition. For instance, on Manus Peak, the terrain on some of the mountains looks different from the outside perspective than to what those on the mountains see. This causes shots that people fire to hit terrain which the people on the mountain are hiding behind, but still getting hit indicators.

i've noticed this when sniping a far off target. like someone in the high far hills across the map. my retical will turn red and i will fire. i'll see the flash, but no damage. i assume it has to due with distance or the fact that i can barely see them to hit them. i've never seen hit registration that bad before, especially that close. pretty interesting.
as info, i run: a ps3 slim 120 gig with cable internet (~20-25 down and 4-5 up and 15-25 ping on my pc (40-45 ping on ps3)) with an N+ router wireless connection, about 90-95% signal strength. |

Phantom shield has been around for a long time, at least once in every game I play I lose gunfights because of phantom shields and I hope CCP is planning on fixing this to the next build but for now I will have to spray some more and hope for the best. |

There is a miss on the hit detection as well on stationary snipers on some of the more out of the way places. It shows them in plain view with no railing or something of the sort obstructing, then when you fire you just see a shield animation but no damage hit, they do not seem to get a hit warning either. This happened generally if I was at the same height level as them, you needed a higher position to then get a hit. Two examples I have had was in the hills on a map and on the tanks on another, the one with the tanks is the one with the big central building and the square scaffold pipes. |
