this whole AURUM thing is stupid, AUR is (as previously mentioned) only USEFUL (that means you can buy it all time, but it's way less efficient ) in the early stages of your char, meaning core and your spec (if any) After that u can get the same weapons paying ISK and the boosters are not that important.
On the other hand, you will be able to buy AUR items and sell em for ISK in an indefinite future.That's a way to get fast ISK, at least theoretically since someone HAS to buy your stuff.
So lets set some examples: 1: it takes 20$ (I'm from the euro zone but my KB don't wanna print the euro symbol) to buy 40k AUR
2: you can buy an advanced rifle for 70 AUR
We get deduction 1 (D1): 20$ = 40k AUR = 571.## rifles That's good isn't it?
3: You can buy a PLEX for 20$ and it's been a year since i've last played EVE, but the conversion was around 500M (a bit lower)so: 20$=1PLEX = 500M (and it's ALWAYS rising so you can get 500M, but a PLEX and wait 1 year and sell it for 520)
Now get get a way to conect $, ISK and AUR (**** See notes about markets and shi* at the end of the post)
D2: 20$=40000AUR=500M ISK.
D3: 1 Advanced AUR rifle = 70 AUR = 875,656.75 ISK (you can buy 1 every 4 pub matches aprox since u can't play 3 and 1/4)
I hope nobody buys that on a regular basis, so few ppl will sell em.
Now with boosters: a 7 days booster is around 7000 AUR. Since we don't want to play w decimal numbers and we can almost buy 6 boosters with a 40k AUR pack, we're gonna get the ISK:AUR conversion rate**** using $ as the conversion base.
500M ISK =20$ 40K AUR = 20$ 500M ISK = 40K AUR (I hope I've made it so simple even a kid understands)
THIS is the important number**** ------------->>> 12500 ISK = 1 AUR <-> 1 AUR= 12500 ISK <<<------------ More exmaples:
1. 7 days booster -> 7000AUR -> 87.5M ISK 2. 1 month using 7 days boosters 87.5M * (30/7) = 375M ISK 3. since you want active + pasive = 375*2 = 750M ISK
Deduction: i've you want to play EVE style (pseudo-suscription mod of sorts paying to get the most SP) you need PLEX and a half a month (3 PLEXes every 2 months) or 60$ / 2 = 30$ month (like the OP said)
Conclusion: EVE players can buy PLEX for ISK, we may be able to, but i don't think we'll be able to pay RL money for it, so we are stuck with AUR, which ISK value is directly dependent PLEX value since I'm not gonna pay 20$ to buy 40k AUR if it's less worth than a PLEX.
The moment we stop having taxes on EVE isk-> DUST isk, DUST players won't be able to buy a 7-days booster (87,5M) the inflation on AUR items will be so fcking big it's no possible that we can merge wallets ever.
To sum up: this game is way more expensive than EVE if you wanna pay for it, but you don't have to, so it will end with you not doing so after a certain point (just like EVE) with the difference of ppl not buying AUR to get ISK since AUR things should be so expensive in ISK that nobody w/o ISK coming from AUR or EVE will be able to buy em on regular basis and in case 1 you will simply buy the damn thing (boosters mostly) in the AUR market and in case 2 you'll either have such a brutal tax to convert EVE ISK into DUST ISK that it won't be worth it (creating a black market scam-prone, first of example of this was around the forums a week or so ago) or you will simply use PLEX if there's no tax since it's more worth cuz it has a constant demand. To really sum up: AUR looks like a self-use currency and doesn't look like it will work on the market any way near how the PLEX does, so the only way to this game to get some CONSTANT money income is to have a continuously growing player base, just like all F2P games so the moment the player-base stabilizes they will start to lose money.
**** : the ISK:PLEX rate is constantly changing and when i say changing i mean rising, it's like gold in the world economy; money gets out of prints, so it's worth nothing, if there's more money, it's worth less, and finite things like PLEX gets more expensive. EVE works like a real economy and as such it's money it's always losing value against finite things like PLEX, so if there's no way i can think of to make plexes going down on price except a ******* big ISK sink which i think this game won't be. The moral of the history is for every 500M you got frozen in your EVE wallet, buy a plex, it's a low risk low revenue deposit on EVE and the only way to no lose money due inflation.
DISCLAIMER : this post went way off-topic, and is a random rant of a Software Engineering student with no clue of economy except for a subject studied one semester 3 years ago, if you thing this is bullshit, just say it, if you back it up with some logic I won't be able to answer Oh, and sorry for my grammar, expression, etc, my country is not very proficient speaking English on average.
TL:DR; you did good, go on EDIT: wow, seeing this posted i think I've made a postzilla, it looks more like a blog article than a post, srry xD |

Quote: with the merc pack is 15$ a month, which is pretty acceptable
Well, after a year you would be like "Why can't i hold all this Toxin SMG?" I think the merc pack it's such a good deal in comparison w the 40K AUR pack that doesn't make sense to get the second even more if you will be able to sell the weapons and suits that comes w the merc pack. So either it gets removed or the 40k AUR thing should get cheaper.
On game side the boosters are way too expensive and while I can understand the lack of 30 days active boosters(not really but...), it doesn't make sense with passive ones, it's not like you want 7 days boost for anything special, you probably want to get the most time with the money are able/want to spend in the game, proof is ppl are stacking 7 days boosters, meaning they would definitely go for the 30 days variants if they would exist, hell I had hoped even a 1 year passive booster for those that like pseudo subscription-like play mode and because in every F2P game there's that super expensive item that only true addicted (i mean dedicated players) will buy instead, the most expensive items we've got are the MAG suits.... a type-I suit that gets old pretty fast, even if I've been using em since they went out instead of using a Type II assault because the player-base (aka blueberries) can be easily handled anyway...
But seriously, I think they haven't even started to introduce items much less AUR items and i hope the AUR items price to go sightly down, so everything we're talking here is kind of vaporware but since I'm waiting a dev blog telling us we get the new build on Thursday 28th (I'm suck a dreamer ) i got nothing else to do while resting from a long DUST session.
