Yesterday, I was told that you could use a keyboard and mouse for this game. I used to play WOW and even though it isn't a shooter game, I got the WASD/spacebar on LOCK which is what they said you use for Dust. Apparently, the aiming is so much easier and I imagine it is if you're good with a keyboard+mouse.
Any personal experiences? Can anyone even confirm that its possible? |

KBM still feels wierd imo. I am much better with a controller. What ever you are more comfortable with I guess. |

Most top Dust players use controllers, but that has more to do with the fact that most of them came from other console FPSs. If you're more comfortable with KBM, then I don't see not.
You can't customize keys to my knowledge. I've also never heard anything about it feeling good. |

I sucked with the DS3 (controller) at first. Was terrible. But playing loads of this and Call of Duty got me more comfortable using it than I would be using a KB/m at this point. The more you practice the better you get, and then if you decide to venture outside of this game on your PS3, you have a skill that will crossover, as opposed to hoping your next game supports KB/m. |

While nobody would cut it in top end counter-strike with a pad, dust is and will be a different matter. The game is on console where the smoothness is yet missing for kb/m. The game won't evolve around small scale stuff either, so consistency in being good will be as valuable as reaching excellence.
Pad limits the excellence, but allows more consistency than a gliding mouse. Good pad players are and will continue to be in the top endgame, even if mouse has more inherent potential in its fast accuracy. |

Yes, r for reload, ctrl for duck, not yet, but soonGäó
more specific; imo, the fluctuating, low frame that seems to effect mouse sensitivity and the poor hit detection makes it harder than it should be to kb/m well. Haven't seen any kb/m user say it 'felt good', is solid, or anything else positive other than 'it exists'.
It feels like unreal engine games on a slow pc http://forums.gamersfirst.com/topic/226344-mouse-accelerationdampening-fix/ https://bittah.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=18608 http://blacklight-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=260911 http://garbledzombie.wordpress.com/2007/02/20/fixing-the-unreal-mouse-lag/ |

Show me a former competitive tribes, quake, or any other 'arena shooter' veteran in dust and i'll show you a guy that's probably using a kb/m
I know a few that quit in disgust simply because of the poor kb/m support, but are chomping at the bit for a fix. |

As someone who started playing FPS's with a kb/m to begin with; I perform much better using the controller than the kb/m. The kb/m just doesn't feel right for me with this game. |

I am using KB/M
PS3 only has 2 USB ports (unless you still have a working first generation model) so purchase of a USB hub is needed if you want to be able to use a USB headset or charge a controller while playing. (Note that even when using KB/M if you DC your controller it displays an annoying "please reconnect controller" message. Which is stupid, but thats the way it works.
Can't map keys yet which is annoying, but we will be able to in future. Will you perform better with KB/M??? Well that depends on person really. I found I am doing much better with KB/M than pad and should only get better when KB/M support is improved.

I'm another KB/M user . As someone who's never really learnt how to use the controller properly, and as someone who's come from a predominantly PC crowd, for me, this is really the only way for me to go.
Because of mouse sensitivity (I'm using a Steelseries Sensei - one of the mice listed as having some issues in the supported KB/M sticky -> https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=32453&find=unread ), I do try to switch to the controller when I jump in a vehicle or turret. Otherwise, I personally find that the setup works more or less fine.
As has been mentioned before, it's a matter of what you're comfortable with, and how you're set up. I have my PS3 set up on my desk - couch mercs understandably cannot use a kb/m properly without issue.
Also, either way, if you're bad with one or the other, there's the chance that sticking with it will get you used to it and performing better anyway.
