A big problem with Dust 514 right now is how little randoms in public matches use squad orders. Perhaps there are some reading who don't really know about squad orders. Well my goal is to help raise awareness whether on the internet or in the game itself, and hopefully you will to. The squad order system when used can actually make a random squad feel organized even without mics.
So let's make this brief: 1. As soon as you enter the war barge before battle begins, press select and check to see if you are the squad leader.
2. If you are squad leader, when you spawn in hold R2 then click R3 and select an order. Then target an objective/location/enemy/teammate until a box appears and hit R1 to send it out. Types of orders include,
- Attack - Place these on enemies, whether infantry or vehicle, and a giant flashing red marker will appear indicating to your squad to attack.
- Defend - Place these on teammates or objectives and a circle will appear indicating to your squad to defend that player or objective.
- Capture - Place these on objectives such as null cannons, installations, CRU's, and supply depots and giant arrows will appear indicating to your squad to capture the objective.
- Rally - Place these at any location and a circle will appear indicating to your squad to form up at that location.
3. If you are having a hard time placing a target on something, all orders can also be placed by pressing DOWN on the d-pad to open up the overview map.
4. When your squad obeys a squad order, they get extra points and you get points for commissioning it.
5. Lastly once your squad accrues 2500 points, you can call in an orbital strike by pressing RIGHT and going to Off Map Support.
It's really as simple as that. Sure CCP can do things to help make it more obvious, but until then we can all help by raising awareness. The game really is a lot more fun when working as a squad, even if there are no mics involved. Oh, and if you are fortunate enough to get placed in a squad where the squad leader knows what he's doing, please try to follow the orders. |

If you have a tank in your squad, put defender on it. If the tank puts defender on himself and then gives SL to someone else, don't move the order to something else.
tanks are WP whores. more WP = more orbitals. In a good game you'll get 3-5 orbitals if your tank has a defender mark on him. |

It's my own opinion that they need to reward less points for someone marked as "Defend" because all it does is make that the only squad order people use. I agree that if you are in a corp match definitely do that because you need to win, but if it's just a public match try using other orders as well since it's better for communicating with players who are not using a mic. |

No! :P
I get like 3.5-5k wp/match with that thing. The squad leader can get 1-2.5k for putting the mark on me and barely getting any other WP for the whole match.
I do the pub games for isk/some SP. I've increased profits from 400,000 isk to games where I make 500,000+ isk a match. I don't know if I get more $ for more WP, or if it's just that I blow up better stuff, but I like my WP! >:0
At 2.2m a match my tanks are expensive. It takes me multiple matches to break even with just one death. It'd be awful if I was reduced to making the 200-300k isk that all the other people are making.
Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of tanks, but this game is new. CCP has disconnected me twice, and when I get disconnected by moving over part of the map in the wrong way, causing my tank to fall through the ground, and which causes my client to crash, I want all the ISK I can get.
I've lost two tanks in pub matches since getting the nice ones, and both times have been because my client crashed for driving over the terrain in the wrong way >.>
I usually don't do pub matches because the blue dots usually don't like to help out my tank, and I always get way less SP. Plus, I enjoy playing games with people in my corp ^.^ Every now and then I pub queue solo with my tank, and that's usually because I'm spending part of the match testing something out. Unfortunately there's no way to use vehicles and gear outside of pub matches, so I have to test thing out in a game. (by doing stuff I normally don't do, like railgun sniping and crawling over terrain backwards w/o shooting almost anyone...) |

Also, the blue dots never do anything anyways! The ones who actually place objective marks place them on the worst objective possible, and die immediately when they are within 150m of their marks.
edit: can you tell how much I hate blue dots? xD |

That's funny, I play public matches for fun. ISK and Skill Points are just a bonus. I'll gladly do things that don't give me all the rewards as long as I get enjoyment out of it. Also behind the screen of every blue-dot is a real person like you and I. And I don't blame them for not knowing every nook and cranny like we do, but I will gladly do whatever I can to help make it easier for them.
Blue dots having fun is more important than me getting ISK/SP, because the more blue dots that have fun -> the more successful Dust becomes -> the the more support CCP can give -> the more fun I can have. |

Delirium, good attitude. I'm one of the blue dots (just found the game this weekend). It's going to take me some time to get through the depth to become proficient. I'm remaining a non-mic'ed random for a bit also, even though I have a mic, because I need to just focus on mechanics, figuring out a good class/skill path for myself, learning the dynamics of the maps, how to manage my finances, etc. For now, I have not "graduated" myself up to even thinking about the objective based games or trying to get into an organized _anything_ (sticking with public instant ambush games to just solo grind right now).
That said, I understand the impatience from the Feted Inner Core about us blueberries. Threads like this one are the way to get us all past these early learning stages (the forum community seems to be pretty awesome so far).
I'm taking a long view approach to this game, first just trying to educate myself. So thanks for these threads!
At some point I'll try to get into a non NPC corp, but not until I feel I can add value. Until then, I'm one of the random blueberries that I'm sure you'll get frustrated with in public TD matches. I don't apologize for that; at some point I might be your corp mate. |

I've attempted some of the other squad orders, the big difficulty here is the menus ya go through to get to them. Easy if you can see it and aren't getting shot at but a pain if you can't and have to pull up the mini-map.
I am curious to see how the MCC comander with be able to use and give orders as that will make for much better command and control once operational. For now though, even just getting the defend order out there is a start for most. Can't even count the number of times I've asked for someone to put it out and they've come back with "how do I do that?" |
