A big problem with Dust 514 right now is how little randoms in public matches use squad orders. Perhaps there are some reading who don't really know about squad orders. Well my goal is to help raise awareness whether on the internet or in the game itself, and hopefully you will to. The squad order system when used can actually make a random squad feel organized even without mics.
So let's make this brief: 1. As soon as you enter the war barge before battle begins, press select and check to see if you are the squad leader.
2. If you are squad leader, when you spawn in hold R2 then click R3 and select an order. Then target an objective/location/enemy/teammate until a box appears and hit R1 to send it out. Types of orders include,
- Attack - Place these on enemies, whether infantry or vehicle, and a giant flashing red marker will appear indicating to your squad to attack.
- Defend - Place these on teammates or objectives and a circle will appear indicating to your squad to defend that player or objective.
- Capture - Place these on objectives such as null cannons, installations, CRU's, and supply depots and giant arrows will appear indicating to your squad to capture the objective.
- Rally - Place these at any location and a circle will appear indicating to your squad to form up at that location.
3. If you are having a hard time placing a target on something, all orders can also be placed by pressing DOWN on the d-pad to open up the overview map.
4. When your squad obeys a squad order, they get extra points and you get points for commissioning it.
5. Lastly once your squad accrues 2500 points, you can call in an orbital strike by pressing RIGHT and going to Off Map Support.
It's really as simple as that. Sure CCP can do things to help make it more obvious, but until then we can all help by raising awareness. The game really is a lot more fun when working as a squad, even if there are no mics involved. Oh, and if you are fortunate enough to get placed in a squad where the squad leader knows what he's doing, please try to follow the orders. |

That's funny, I play public matches for fun. ISK and Skill Points are just a bonus. I'll gladly do things that don't give me all the rewards as long as I get enjoyment out of it. Also behind the screen of every blue-dot is a real person like you and I. And I don't blame them for not knowing every nook and cranny like we do, but I will gladly do whatever I can to help make it easier for them.
Blue dots having fun is more important than me getting ISK/SP, because the more blue dots that have fun -> the more successful Dust becomes -> the the more support CCP can give -> the more fun I can have. |
