Any other new to EvE , Dust players look at the list of corps or glance at the recruitment forum and just stare at it .....blankly ... for like an hour. I feel like I need a masters degree in Gaming history and Factions mixed with a bag of you had better know your **** noob. Hence the blank stare cuz I dont have either of those. So where is a guy to start coming in (i dont know how long EvE has been around) ten years late not knowing who is doing what , or if it matters. From what I can gather we are going to start caring what planets we hang out on , and sooner or later someone is going to carpet bomb the spot where I planted my tomatoes. I DONT WANT MY TOMATOES CARPET BOMBED! So how in gods name am I supposed to pick a side when I dont even know what they mean. Thank you CCP for creating a game environment that can evolve in a way that makes me care about this stuff.... and I hate you :) |

Your best bet is one of the friendly training corps, like Dust University. They are the counterpart to EVE University, which has a good reputation. |

Well, you have already decided to go Gallente for your character, so that's a good start. As for corps, take a look around, find a group that interests you, that has players in your timezone. Most casual or training corps for newbies tend to be pretty welcoming and don't have specific requirements other than mics (which are pretty essential), whereas more elite corps have stricter kdr requirments and other things.
Basically just find one that sounds like it fits for you and send them an application. |

Hey Bunker, Don't worry your not alone in feeling lost among all the corporations out there, we get a lot of people who don't know where to begin.
My advice to you goes one of two ways
1, Join a starter corporation like D-UNI, we are a friendly bunch and any questions you have about the game from fittings ideas to tactics to the ever present SOONGäó meta game we can help you understand. We also have a depth of teaching resources from an ever expanding wiki to a training program we are starting to piece together as well as a few fun event that we are working on introducing to the corp. All this means you will learn the game and improve your personal skills at a much faster pace and you will no doubt find a group of friends you like to play with relatively quickly within D_UNI, and of course due to the nature they tend to have a relatively large number of players, this can be a double edged sword for some people, on the one hand it means no matter what time zone you play in you will always have other corp member to play with but some people can feel lost in amongst such a large crowd. If that feels like it might be you here is option 2.
2, Look for a group of friends you like to play with, chances are if you have been playing the game solo for a few days you will have met a few people you like to play with or just think there good players. Send them a mail and ask if they want to squad up with you, or ask to squad up in local chat and see who you get. This was you can focus more on having fun and learning at your own pace. The group you like to play with will probably be smaller but closer and if you eventually decided to join a corporation you can make it a group decision. Maybe you might even decided to start your own corporation as a small group of friends and build it up together to be one of the top level highly respected mercenary corporations in Dust514.
You can of course join a corp that catches your eye if they will take you and normally players are happy to pass on bits of information but id advice you to spend some time deciding who you want to join. There are a lot of good corps out there but countless more that are inactive. What ever you decide to do Bunker I wish you the best of luck in your mercenary career. And if you ever get stuck and need some advice or help please feel free to send me a mail, doesn't matter if your part of D-UNI or not I'm always happy to help where I can.

If you look at the eve influence map it shows who items what areas in eve in a nice clear fashion. Starter corps are well and good but my philosophy and how i run my corp is to help new people as best i can but not be a temporary home. If you are a fun person to squad with and have a good attitude i want you in my corp. Knowledge of the game and skill is something you develop and your corp should help you with. Also uptight structure and requirements is a sure fire way to burn players out a well run laid back group is the key to continued enjoyment of the game |

My advice is simple. DON'T join a corp right away.
Instead browse the recruitment forums and join the public chat channels of a few noteworthy (or random if you are so inclined) corps. Squad with them a few times with different dudes each time. Figure out who you enjoy playing with the most and then consider joining.
If you get the pressure sales pitch to join right away, tell em you are shopping for a good match and want try a few out before signing up. You are interviewing them as much as they are interviewing you. |

The best advice I could give a newbro is, dont rush or jump the gun having to get in a corp.play with several corps. If you are a free agent, most corps will let you tag along, that changes sometimes when you are in a corp. Remember, you are needed as a number to open door corps,so you will be approached, just shop around and try not to get a bad name by jumping ship from one corp to another. |

I agree. Most corps have a public channel too. Jumping from one corp to another is something to avoid. |
