Anyone ever play the game Frontlines: Fuel of War? It had a game mode called Frontlines which was awesome. Here's the description of Frontlines from Wikipedia, it does a better job explaining it than I could.Quote: The gameplay focuses on a central mechanic, the frontline. This is designed to keep the action in one place, by focusing objectives closer together on the battlefield. The frontline also has bonuses. By moving it back and forth across the battlefield, the player may gain or lose weapons and equipment.[8] The frontline mechanic is used in all gametypes, which forces players to choose which objectives they will pursue or defend, adding a strategic level to the gameplay.
Frontlines mode was great because it focused the fight onto the frontline, it was less a random marry go round than Skirmish currently is in Dust and because both teams were always trying to push the frontline forward you didn't get problems like a dug in defender or steamrolling attacker that's happens in Battlefield's Rush mode or in MAG.
Anyone think this would be a good mode to add? |

Sounds good!
I like the concept of having frontlines/battle lines. |

Why do you consider a dug in defender to be a bad thing? |

Sometimes you get a team of defenders that are too good and the attackers make no progress. It's no fun for the attackers. Spawning only to be greeted by a wall of bullets can get really frustrating, especially if the defenders leave their base and push up to the attackers spawn. |

Just because the defending team is good doesn't mean that it's a gameplay problem
I think you might be looking for a problem that fits your solution. |

TBH. this is a matchmaking fail and nothing more. |

Think whatever you want.
I still think a Frontlines style mode would be a good addition to Dust. |

i dunno about dug in defenders, i don't see the problem there, or how this would help anyway. if they're "dug in" then they must be satisfied with their position, and that's prolly where the frontline is gonna be anyway?
but a sort of "push of war" mode or mechanic would be a good solution to the whole tail chasing bullcrap that 90% of skirmish matches degrade into.
these maps are WIDE open, so there's always a way around. after a certain point there are no more gunfights. you're just chasing around that one poor bastard who refuses to give up. yet you can't ignore him or he might actually turn it around. |
