The points system is an instant gratification reward, that let's players know that they've done something "good". It promotes team work by allowing squads, teams, and Corps to act as a single unit and rewarding them with higher scores when they do. Lone wolfing in the game, while allowed, is generally frowned upon and this is reflected in the lower scores that lone wolves recieve in comparison to to the players that consistantly work in squads. The very concept of Kill Stealing goes against this fundamental principal of the game. As has been stated elsewhere on these forums, this game is not about KDR, but KDR is the second best method of achieving WP's at the moment, which controls how much ISK and SP you recieve at the end of the match. This sistuation makes players more hesitant to work together as they feel they can't fully trust their own team mates, in that what "benefits you hurts me". By spreading the WP gained per kill around more evenly, perhaps based on the total percentage of damage dealt, would lead even further away from the "me only" mentality that is often talked about on these forums.
So perhaps this could work:
For every 2% in total damage dealt, a player recieves 1 WP if/when the enemy is killed.
Kiling Blows could receive a 20% bonus which is 10 WP's
Headshots recieve a 10% bonus which is 5 WP's
If you take out the enemy on your own, with a headshot (far more common when ADS with an AR than with a sniper rifle i might add), you would receive 65 WP's for that kill. If you took him almost all the way down (let's say, 98%), but someone else gets the killing blow then you would receive 49 WP's and you team mate would recieve 11 WP's (1WP for last 2% damage dealt plus the 20% Killing Blow bonus), or 16 WP's if they were lucky enough to get the headshot.

Sorry for only posting "+1" earlier, but I try not to post something unless I have something more constructive to add than just, "yeah, that's cool". |
