Well being a player of EVE online for the past 4 years as im sure others here are also,
it's generally a well known fact most players of eve online think we are poop.... and don't take dust serious in the lease little bit. kinda sad i was hoping it would work out more!
to those guys dust is pretty much just another lolomgshootingmalazurgun fps game with the eve tag.
it's like dust is now the red head step child everyone laughs at at mistreats..... say dust 514 in game you get a bunch of lul's
kinda sad i hope it improves..... but for now i know my friends in eve corp included just consider dust a flavor of the month that won't last....
let's hope they are wrong :d i'm digging dust meh self..... still love eve moar.... but running smae 3 maps over and over getting a tad dull... i'm in it to win it though and going nowhere fast!!!
see you all in game :D

I've only browsed the Dust part of their forums, and people there seem to be excited/hopeful about us. The only we will get more respect is if/when our services as mercs become of actual value to them. |

I've noticed some of that too. One person in militia chat referred to DUST as a "cancerous growth". I think when DUST starts having more impact on New Eden people will open up to it more. |

I don't think it matters much what EVE players think about DUST. I think what matters is what DUST players think.
Currently my thoughts are -> I'm playing this build ONLY b/c it is 1) beta and 2) I want sp for next build.
If next build does not move this game in the direction I feel it should go, I'm likely to cease at that point.
I played MAG through it's entire open beta and for 2 years after release. MAG always felt like I had a team, and was in a more organized combat. Even when blue dots didn't do what you wanted (red line snipers) they were still there, visible and acting in your game. When a game ended it had a good climax. Especially for the attacking team, but even the defending team has a rush as the match progressed.
In DUST I currently feel there is no climax for the games. Granted only 2 are in play currently, neither of them really feel like there is team work, structure, or objectives which define the match. One team typically overruns the other and it ends in a red line camp shoot. Some matches it's just round robin of cap'ing points and leaving them. The worst parts are when you kill the people at a point, go to cap it and 3 more ppl spawn and kill you... If you don't cap it but wait, they still spawn and kill you...
In general I do not feel rewarded for good plays as it does not directly bring an advantage.
The spawning really must be addressed, spawning from letters need to be cut out completely. Add in some clone reserves if it's needed, but as long as people can spawn directly at the point you are attempting to hack, it's gonna be a dangerous game.
This would also allow teams to spawn in a closer proximity to each other. In DUST I feel like I rarely have my team with me. In MAG I always felt like I did. Sometimes I'd feel it b/c I'd run passed a bunch of blue dot snipers failing my match for me and I'd knife them in the back... But I'd still see them. Here I feel completely alone and surrounded, with little direction or empowerment to make a difference in the battle.
As it sits, the concept of DUST is greatly appealing for me, and I have hopes that the concept will shine through. Equal to these hopes are my doubts that ccp has the design intelligence to make this work... They are using Unreal Engine for christs sakes >_< FAILFAILFAILFAILFAIL |

It is sad, but I'm pretty sure there were plenty of people back in 2003 that thought Eve Online would never last past a few years from their release. Look at Eve now. |

What really matters is what CCP wants EVE players to think of DUST because they set the rules that make us matter or not.
Done right, it will force EVE players to interact with us. And if that happens we will eventually bond. |

I really don't know where you guys are finding these capsuleers, if your dragging the bottom of the barrel or what. I am an eve player, have been for a few years now, and nearly everyone I have spoken to in eve either loves the game, or loves the idea. Of course, you do get the occasional person who is very vocal about their dislike, but in my opinion and experience they are the minority to be honest. |

Exactly man, same here, and not just in the DUST locals. I swear a lot of people are finding those 1 or 2 loud mouths who are very vocal about their dislike, and making a big deal out of it, a mountain out of a molehill as it were.
Honestly, generalising all eve players as dust haters, is just causing more unnecessary friction, as dust players are going to go into this thinking all eve players hate them, which is definitely the opposite of the truth, at least in my (and many others) experiences.
I am not, of course, denying that there are some dust haters. We have all come across them. However they always seem to be the minority, even if rather vocal. |

Well I think they don't like us because DUST removes resources from Eve (from the dev side i mean). I'm an ex-evepilot and I must say I enjoy(ed) both games. The thing is like the Eve-universe and due to social reasons I simply can't play eve anymore. I can still play the eve-universe though :)
As soon as CCP gives dusters the ability to control some resources...then they might like us or really really hate us :) Who said hate would be a bad thing...if we can shoot at spacehips with planetside cannons! BWAHAHAHA!! TEARS!! |

On the contrary I've seen a lot of EVE players who're very excited about what DUST will bring to New Eden.
In the same respect, I was at EuroGamer 2012 for our pre open beta demo in September last year, and there were a lot of excited EVE players who came along to try it out :)
True, there are a few people who're skeptical, but that comes with anything new, or any major change.
I can't wait until the point where DUST and EVE are fully merged into one awesome sci-fi universe that fills New Eden with dark stories of murder, betrayal, political intrigue and shenanigans.

I was about to say "change is always scary to a lot of people" but yeah, what you said.
I think the potential is awesome! I always loved the idea of EVE but never had the time to really get into it. Dust will hopefully allow me to be a part of New Eden in a way more suitable for me. |

Kinda funny that some people think of Dust as lolomgshootingmalazurgun fps, because the people who have the most fun with Eve think of it as lolomgshootingmalazurguninspace. There's a whole lot of bitter turds in eve who get all angry when someone mentions Dust, but there are also a ton who are excited about the potential this game brings to the Eve universe. |

i like how we can troll them with just our mere presence. it's not like their stupid little orbital strike is nothing more than a gimmick to make them feel like they're involved with the battle when in reality there just some space puppet with their orbital, but then an 8 vs 8 battle is somewhat a gimmick in it's self. |

I imagine you'd be mad too if they released an update to Dust which only added $80 cosmetic items.

A select vocal minority are bitter in my Alliance. Most don't care one way or the other, but there are those that can't wait to see what this game can become.
The biggest problem most of my people have is that when I play Dust, I'm not playing EVE, and since I'm one of the only "Instigators" (as CCP Seagull calls us) in my Alliance, **** doesn't get done unless I'm motivating them to do it.
So in the end, the bitterness comes from my people not being able to self-motivate more than Dust being "bad for EVE" or "a crappy FPS."
I've honestly not felt excitement in an FPS in years, but the Corp matches actually get me that "holy ****, this match matters, better not **** it up" feeling I get when I fly a fleet against an equal or larger force in EVE. |

Seriously though if EVE players don't want to get on board with Dust players then that's going to be their loss. By loss I mean any and all planets and resources will soon be owned and operated but Dust players. |

Just from a lore/rp perspective, we are only a step above the regular denizens of New Eden, whose lives they buy and sell without a thought. They cause fluctuations in galactic economies out of boredom and lay siege to Jita for giggles. We are little more than dust to them. They will buy and sell us too. But we'll be a bit more expensive. A far more dangerous commodity. |
