Half an hour into a 512+ player Skirmish battle on a moon in Gallente space.. You find yourself in a 1 V 1 dogfight with an enemy merc...
You're stranded in a wide open, isolated valley.. And you've been separated from your squad after a firefight in a refining compound 2 kilometers away..
You're closest friendlies are about a mile away.. And they are preoccupied with an advance on another, separate manufacturing facility..
Which will be struck from orbit by a Caldari missile volley shortly...
You are squaring off with the lone enemy while moving from cover to cover behind scattered boulders and patches of plantlife. Some of which are hostile if you get too close.
The viney stingers on a large red plant flail at you when it senses you nearby as you sprint to it for cover.. Stray gauss rounds from the enemies rifle, strike and splinter it's trunk. The alien plant writhes and become more agitated and one of its vines strikes your dropsuits shield.. You realize this clever enemy of yours is trying to use the environment against you to flush you out of cover..
You notice on your HUD scanners that the can plant can quickly regenerate itself in small bursts every few moments.. It must have regenerative capabilities.. But that isn't important at the moment..
You turn and sprint to the abandoned LAV you hacked when you came across a small guard outpost, which was decimated by an advancing HAV convoy..
But it was just turned into a crater by a passing bomber... or maybe a stray shot from an artillery tank.. It happened too fast to see exactly what happened..
A second stray shell lands right next to the large red plant and it instantly becomes shredded into a flurry of plant matter.. it scatters onto you, as well as your enemy who is also a few meters away. Some viscous plant matter lands on you and simply evaporates on your shield, doing a slight bit of damage..
His shields, however, have been depleted in the firefight and from the shell shrapnel.. and the acidic plant liquids that showered him slowly bite at his armor..
The damage is only marginal - maybe about a hitpoint every couple of seconds - but he will have only a few minutes or so to reach a Logistician to repair and sterilize his dropsuit before it eats through his armor...
He closes on you as he switches to his sidearm.. You are just about to raise your weapon to finish this..
When suddenly..
A rather LARGE arthropod-like creature emerges from the rubble near the craters caused by the stray shells.. Those explosions probably disturbed its shallow underground lair...
It looks as wide as a LAV and your HUD reads it has about as much HP as one, as well.. except it stands about 2 LAVs tall, with four thickly-carapaced legs, and large mandibles...
It also looks a little bit pissed off.. You and your enemy quickly glance at each other..

Im not interested. I don't like npc's getting involved in my pvp. Also fighting the envornment is more of a gimmick in my mind and hasn't been fun in any games ive played. A descriptive narrative though.
Edit: I play guild wars 2. In RVR which are big pvp objective capture-able maps there are NPCs and NPC towns they just end up being an annoyance. That's what im basing my perspective from |

Thanks for the responses. I was just bored and decided to try and paint an idea I had with a quick narrative.
Considering this game may eventually get into very large, randomly-generated maps. I thought it may be interesting to include NPCs such as wildlfe or even NPC civilians or robots tending the facilities.
I thought it might have the potential to throw a little flavor into the game. |

I just feel this was posted in the wrong forum section, it had enough story to go into the locker room but the actual idea would be appropriate in the feedback and idea section

I like the idea! Its something that i hope CCP implements. I mean it makes sense. CCP made this super hardcore FPS with all these requirements for skills and buying gear, why not make the planets realistic also? The Eve universe is huge, i'm sure there are millions of planets with dangerous wildlife.
Some of my favorite shooter moments where with NPCs. The Star Wars Battlefront Games for example, with NPC jedi or creatures/wildlife was awesome. Having to worry about the enemy plus them was just great.
Hopefully they do give us environmental hazards in the future. Meteors on moon levels, dangerous plant life in jungles, crazy animals, rogue robots on lonely tech planets, crazy storm weather on unstable plants etc.
PS. we need a lava map! |
