The act of sniping itself is a lot easier than people are making it. What people need training on is the fundamentals like finding good perches, how to situate yourself around cover, being aware of surroundings, carefully picking targets, choosing the right gear, and how to provide overwatch. For crying out loud, there are still people trying to snipe standing up out in the open.
*sigh*
Just make sure you aren't teaching them the wrong way. |

Can I have tips on how to run into the fray of the fight, still find somewhere I can have a good chance of hitting someone without being hit, then managing to handle sway whilst an enemy is charging at me with every weapon besides another sniper, and more than likely possessing enough shields and armour to withstand more than one hit from my sniper which is probably all I can achieve given there are two grenades being lobbed at my stationary position and I'm probably going to be flanked by a scout who is using a shotgun, which, by the by, seems to me at that moment a much more reasonable weapon given the circumstances? |

The ones in the hills, assuming they actively use mics, have a bit more responsibility.
The right perch means you can cover an objective in addition to calling out/suppressing enemy movement and counter-sniping. I can appreciate a midfield sniper, but I appreciate overwatch much more. I have no idea who this "gem cutter" is, but being an "expert sniper" means more than taking a few successful shots. I make it point to hunt down snipers to teach them with a little tough love. Point is, snipers doing it wrong. Taking shots standing up, out in the open, in the middle of the field, and not contributing. Its a problem.
I'm not trying to undermine you or your efforts, but snipers with bad habits aren't and never will be successful snipers and I will shove my AR in their faces and unload on them because of those bad habits. |

There are so many elements to being a good sniper. It's not just about kills. it's about communicating with your team, watching their backs. forcing the enemy into cover instead of completing their assault.
Position is a critical factor. If you can see the whole battlefield, the whole battlefield can see you. sprinting between a few good vantage points is better than one spot with no cover. Use terrain and buildings to help cover your flanks. scaning high points on the map for enemy snipers while covering your teams advance.
Supressing fire can keep enemies pinned down while your squad gets into position to capture an objective or organise defence. Heavy suits won't be dropped in one hit, but if he's advancing on your squad, that 180 damage or so will seal his fate when your friends show up. some corridors can become excellent kill zones from the right vantage point, making it hard to miss. Taking out Logis will stop them being reinforced too quickly
Close range snipers can inflict massive damage to an advacing enemy squad, staying hidden and unleashing hell when needed. and while not my prefered tactics, I've been dropped into that situation a few times. a fast suit and large shields are a good help. |

Digi, if you ever see Gem Cutter in your games then you either have to lock him down or always take cover. Just trying to give you a heads up. |

Over-dramatic self-aggrandisation aside, what benefit does close-range sniping to protect an objective have over long-range sniping with increased visibility over the same objective and the ability to instantly focus on other objectives when the first's safety is certain? |

There are plenty of long range points with variable cover to change which section of the battlefield you need to be aware of. I haven't seen any benefits to sniping at close range that outweigh the decreased likelihood of being hit by an LAV, stumbled across, shot with medium-range weapons.
When I'm messing around as a sniper, I can do all of those things, weakening heavies (or dropping them in a few shots, considering a greater field of vision for them to cross before they are safe), prioritising medics, watching the same kill-zone corridors from above, and once the reds at A are dead, I turn to the rock that was preventing B from seeing me and move around it so only B can see me and repeat the process there.

That was kind of my point, strategic vantage points are better than generic ones. Towers, giant spikes of rock, hills, all protect your position from unwanted attention allowing you a little more focus on the objectives at hand. |

My one tip to newbie snipers would be "don't be obvious". That is, when choosing a spot to snipe from, it may appear that on top of that nearby tall building, or right at the top of that hillside is a good spot, but those are the very first places the counter-snipers & other enemies will look for you. Remember, enemy snipers have played the same maps as you, they therefore think like you and know most of the places the unexperienced snipers first go to on each map.
Try instead, for example, to just peek over the tip of a smaller hill halfway up a mountain, or hang back a little farther than you might do otherwise. Try NOT to camp at the "obvious" spots in other words. Be unpredictable. If you find a good spot and make a bunch of kills but are eventually counter-sniped, then change your location once you re-spawn. The counter-sniper may well still have a bead on where you last were. Better still, try to quickly suss-out where you were counter-sniped from and take them out instead, then see if they are stupid enough to go right back to the same spot & snipe them again! You'll be surprised how many enemy snipers do this. |
