Over-dramatic self-aggrandisation aside, what benefit does close-range sniping to protect an objective have over long-range sniping with increased visibility over the same objective and the ability to instantly focus on other objectives when the first's safety is certain? |

There are plenty of long range points with variable cover to change which section of the battlefield you need to be aware of.
I haven't seen any benefits to sniping at close range that outweigh the decreased likelihood of being hit by an LAV, stumbled across, shot with medium-range weapons.
When I'm messing around as a sniper, I can do all of those things, weakening heavies (or dropping them in a few shots, considering a greater field of vision for them to cross before they are safe), prioritising medics, watching the same kill-zone corridors from above, and once the reds at A are dead, I turn to the rock that was preventing B from seeing me and move around it so only B can see me and repeat the process there.
