i do understand that this a game of war and tactics, but i feel the Mass Driver could use a slight tweaking.
i say this because if there is no one but mass diver users... its impossible to get away. they can shoot a bit too far to be understandable, since i got hit by a mass driver from... oh... on the other side of a map, while behind rather tall cover.
i understand that actually takes practice, but it shouldn't be common practice. we should have a range drop off for Mass Drivers, not a horrible one, maybe a bit farther than the AR since the MDs are ment as man portable area denial tool, but a sniper should be able to pick him off. and one man should not be able to hold back a group of six with one.. aside from at a choke point.
i understand the power, i understand the effect, hell, i think they're cool, but a tweak on the range might be more efficient and effective |

Mass driver is fine as is, have you tried getting a kill from across the map? You must have been standing still, because for 1 you have to judge grenade drop from the distance, and if someone is moving, you have to judge distance and how far they will be in the time it takes for your grenade to get there.
Try it sometime. |

One thing to note is that the MD is one of the three weapons in the game with travel time. Forge gun and Swarms being the other two. Second is that it is the only gun in the game that has projectile drop of any kind.
Now factor in that it fires 1 round per second compared to the 12.5 of the assault rifle and you get basically a weapon that while it does a decent amount of damage (could honestly use a bit of a buff) and you end up with a skill based grenade launcher.
Nerfing its range would make it useless. especially since its range is already limited by the quite severe drop it has.

Ok. If I can hit you with a slow moving grenade that flies at an arc from across the map, you deserve to die and I deserve the kill. |

as for standing still, how the heck else am i going to look around for possible ambushes? i dont like to blind charge into a fight unless i know its the only place anything is happening and i have been sitting playing guard dog for half the match. or i'm in cover trying to reload and let my sheilds/armor return a bit before i dive back in.
no, i have been nailed my MDs in places where the only way to actually hit me was straight above me, and there isnt a platform above to stand on. and i'm not saying reduce the power, i'm saying just tweak the arc/able flight distance. they should lose a bit of momentum flying through the air. |

And, no.
Again working as intended.
If you die behind cover find better cover.
You know how many times I've died to date from build 1 from a mass driver? I keep count
3 times... wow so OP
You know how many newberrys I've killed with my MD?
I lost count. |

i was looking for Dev discussion and i get jerks.... man alive.
i am only suggesting, and you guys are so freaking agressive over a small tweak to how they fly over a distance.
there is no reason to be so agressive over a small suggestion, just an arc adjustment... i'm thinking of having a small line that goes about 3 meters to show that far.. past that should be guesswork |

Let me get this straight you want to slow down... the slowest projectile in the game?
I think you fail to realize that your AR is insta hit while my MD has travel time and drop. (and has a much better EFFECTIVE range.)

Have you ever seen a dev tweak something?
Since your a Newberry I'll play nice.
Have you seen those big nasty missile turrets? How lame they are? How they can't even scratch an ARMOR tanks shields?
Believe it or not before they we're tweaked, they we're the most used and one of the most useful weapons on the battlefield.
Now? They just need to be removed from the game they're so silly.
CCP does not tweak, remember that.
They drop a Nerf hammer and make it useless so they can move on.
Yes I'm a jerk, and sorry I am on all things that have the word tweak in it, especially when the weapon has had balance checks which we said each one in posts above.

not slow down instantly, i'm talking.. over 100 meters there should be momentum drop off, plain and simple, thats the easiest way i can put it.
all other weapons have a definitive stop point, give the MD a 'soft' stop point.
if you cant throw forever, then why does the MD fly forever? and if you dont have a logical answer for the question then i dont want to hear it |

I can't down vote you but i would -.-
3 meters? compare that to the assault rifles range of 85 meters...
Also well inside the HITTING OURSELVES range.
you are basically suggesting the complete death of a weapon we skilled into so yea we are going to be a little aggressive in its defense. If you think we are being jerks try suggesting that we TWEAK (read call in the CCP NERFHAMMER 9001) the assault rifle.
can you give me a logical reason why your AR does the same thing? no no you can't stop whining because something killed you and HTFU.
Edit: the mass drive does have a definite range i dont know what it is but eventually the rounds just explode so it doesn't have unlimited range. |

Ok. I'm guessing that you're a fairly new player. Right? And you came on here to ask for a silly nerf for a weapon you have very little understanding of. This isn't the first time this has happened and probably won't be the last either but that really grinds my gears.
At the very least, go get a mass driver and try it out before asking for any kind of changes. |

the guide only reaches 3 meters, not saying thats how far it fires. slow down and actually read, and think.
i mean seriosuly, if there is going to be a momentum drop off, there should be a small guide |

Mass driver is an indirect fire weapon, thats why it killed you. It is meant as an arcing lobber. if you got killed behind cover it means the MD gunner was a.genius and he had a spotter telling him where you are. functionally artillery in game.
second if.a.mass driver round explodes nearby wise people dive for cover, as they believe the next one will land on your head.
also a sh**-hot gunner can predict the angle by where you are on his radar. the mass driver, when wielded by a ballistic genius (genius of any kind is rare in a dust battlefield) will be a holy terror.
someone got a lucky shot and you were sitting still. working as intended.
further. I Can sit on one side of a wall, lob rounds almost straight up and nail the bastard on the other side. its kinda what grenade launchers do.
and I am willing to bet money you havent got a clue how they work. skill up and give em a go. Most people hate the MD because its not as easy to use as they think.

why does everyone think i hate the MD? seriously, i'm suggesting a tweak, not a nerf.
if someone was playing mortar man when i was in cover, nicely done, is someone was on the other side of the wall... i'd prefered if they shot me with a pistol instead. i've met MD users on both sides, so i am jsut hoping for a tweak.
please stop thinking this is me 'hating' on it, stop thinking i want it nerfed. the power can stay, the range is all i want fiddled with, okay?

:) hug,
Ya the MD takes alto of practice, and its not something you can pick up and be OP with.
Even just give the level 1 a try.
I personally began to enjoy them after several dedicated matches using them. |

how does giving a momentum fall off like a thrown grenade break it? i want to know the real answer to this one. i mean... anything launched can only fly so far before air friction grabs it

It takes a long time to reach a target in the distance.
Eventually for range it will simply arc all the way down and die.
This is 1000's of years in the future, I'm sure they have great grenade launchers.
If you can't see a grenade coming from a mass driver and be able to evade. You deserved death, they're already slow.
And at range they're simply mortars. |

yes, they probably do have great grenade launcher systems, and yes, i can dodges them when at an extreme range. do they have friction dampeners? i dont know, so i have to assume air friction would slow it down a bout 80-100 meters out

Eventually for range it will simply arc all the way down and die. This is 1000's of years in the future, I'm sure they have great grenade launchers. If you can't see a grenade coming from a mass driver and be able to evade. You deserved death, they're already slow. And at range they're simply mortars. yes, they probably do have great grenade launcher systems, and yes, i can dodges them when at an extreme range. do they have friction dampeners? i dont know, so i have to assume air friction would slow it down a bout 80-100 meters out
Which is why at max range they either arc out to the ground or explode mid air.

i did not know they airbursted at max range, if i did, i'd just say bring in realistic physics about that then... thank you for pointing that out.
if they do tweak the physics, i hope to lord they make sure to keep the range balanced then.
i do like MDs, its hard not to like a grenade launcher, i just hope for the best then |

Yep it'd be nice if at max range or close to it would simply drop instead of explode, but then it gives the wall possibility.
Where your on one side MD on the other, then he could shoot it almost straight up and as it falls land on the other side and well on you. |

Annnnnd... someone didn't get the point the first time so everyone stand here while papa breakin stuff mocks the crap out of him for NOT READING MY POST CORRECTLY.
Hurr durr. Shut up for a minute, I'm talking here.
The mass driver, often called the Noob tube has a roughly guestimated range maximum somewhere between 60 and 80 meters (closer to 30-40 unless you know ballistic angles like Jesus knows prayer), unaffected by the sharpshooter skill (unlike every other goddamned weapon in the game) because the velocity and mass of the round is fixed. So screw off.
Now, let us add to this, that your accuracy at these ranges is somewhat akin to trying to hit your baby brother in the head with a quarter by DROPPING IT OFF A GODDAMNED SATELLITE! if you were derp enough to stand there while mass driver shells are falling from the sky then my friend you need to re-evaluate standing still, because OOPS! MY cover's been blown Cagney! Help me!
Third, the blast radius is very limited, and while it can be expanded upon via skill that also extends the splash damage falloff outward. so I'm guessing that Either you in your hail mary unlucky shot having self ate one direct to the top of the head, or you stood still while the gunner fired about five of them in your general direction like a complete tool. Guess what most of us consider to be a bad idea?
Another valid point: Listen up chuckles, because it's not the fun one. You can kill yourself with a mass driver. i have... frequently, because i shot a redberry at point blank and figure better I get credit for killing me than he does. Another thing, the refire rate is SLOOOOOOW. a bit over one second per shot refire delay.
And finally, I recognize you'd rather he ran up and shoot you, because it's more sporting and you can shoot back, but let me newsflash you kiddies. If you're playing the game fair, you're doing it wrong. I'm a master of cheap shots and dirty tricks and I have no shame in it. As my drill instructor told me "If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying."
But i don't care. I hear the QQ of a man offended that someone had the audacity to pummel the crap out of him with a weapon doing a trick shot that almost requires an act of God. I have no damned sympathy. Even less now that you are being deliberately obtuse and demanding a range reduction of one of the only weapons in the game that can kill the wielder.
Since the lesson was not learned properly, I declare tomorrow, Saturday, Feburary 9th to be a new Dust 514 Holiday. It shall be known as "Steel Rain on Rachoi" Day! For the commencement of the holiday I ask all who can to watch the rosters of battle for our dear friend Rachoi, and spawn nothing but mass drivers to cheer on his great work demanding our beloved noobtoob be nerfed so that it cannot kill him when he wants to feel safe.
If you cannot use a mass driver, then I offer you this humble substitution just for him.
Militia forge guns are cheap as hell and require no skill point investment. They can be the substitute weapon if your mass driver skills are nonexistent.
Go forth my children, find Rachoi, and make it rain. |

found that out already actually, a quickie alt that is still about.
as for Dropships... those are both easy and hard to fly, and to take out.
for a good long while all i keep is about 10 of the militia ones, cause i never expect them to survive, but are fun to fly.
as for the Forge Gun? AA cannon at it's best honestly
and if there are more skilled, i welcome them to hit me at optimal range, jsut to show me how it works.... weirdest part about this game, i learn as much from killing others as i do from dieing,
and there are very few things that bother me when i play... mostly the people in the freebie car just crashing me, both teams... and maybe someone hopping into a tank/turret instalation to kill JUST me.
so bring it on, if i see you, lets hope that its a fun game, though i doubt a guy with TAR is gonna be much use against you |

i was looking for Dev discussion and i get jerks.... man alive.
i am only suggesting, and you guys are so freaking agressive over a small tweak to how they fly over a distance.
there is no reason to be so agressive over a small suggestion, just an arc adjustment... i'm thinking of having a small line that goes about 3 meters to show that far.. past that should be guesswork
thats cause you are trying to further break an already broken gun that takes quite a bit of skill to pull off the shot you are describing, and you obviously have no clue how it works.
I'm not trying to be an ******* but that shot is not possible you just cant drop rounds behind cover like that and what you are recommending would only make it worse for you in that regard. most likely it came from an angle you didn't see if it one hit you or some one got you with the splash(MD splash is quite large you need to be several meters from the edge of cover to not get hit).
please try a weapon before you start suggesting changes to it, its 12ksp that will be very helpful in learning how to combat the weapon.
lastly THERE IS NO GOOD REASON EVER TO STAND STILL in a fps least of all this game, arguably snipers are the exception to this but unless you want my SMG shoved up your poop tube you better only be standing still long enough to get your kill, becuase after that Im coming for you. |

1) The MD can't drop a round any where near straight down behind a wall, so most likely you had another wall behind you where the round struck and splashed you. If that's the case, you chose poor cover.
CCP is considering a mortar function for the MD so we may get that in the future. Right now if you fire at a high angle the round goes dud before it hits the ground.
2) The MD is not a hit-scan easy hit weapon. The user doesn't have a magic sight that turn red to let him know when to pull the trigger for an automatic hit. It requires the greatest amount of player skill to wield effectively.
3) It is not the one hit kill noob-tube of CoD. It requires more hits to down an enemy which gives them plenty of time to shoot back or head for cover.
4) MD kills are the shark bite deaths of DUST while the AR is the car crash. Hundreds of people die to car crashes and nobody blinks an eye. It's so common and everyone is used to it. We know the risks and accept it. But one guy gets eaten by a shark and it's all over the news and everyone is afraid of the water. Why? Because they are unfamiliar with it and it is therefore scary.
I'll bet you die 100:1 to bullet fire over MD rounds. Yet you are calling for a nerf not on ARs, but on MDs. |

Pro tip:
A MD wielder is NOT aiming for you. He is targeting the surface you are standing on or next to within the splash radius. If he targets your body and misses, the round will impact outside the splash radius and do no damage to you, giving you plenty of time to drill him with your AR.
That means unlike most other weapons YOU control the size of your hit box!
Stand on the crest of a hill above the MD user and you offer a hit box the size of your body. Everything else is a clean miss.
Stand with your back to a wall and you offer a hit box the size of the broad side of a barn. The MD user can target your head because a miss still hits close to your head and splashes you. He can target your feet for the same reason. You offer great odds even on medium to long shots. That's as effective as charging a HMG head on.
Be aware of your surroundings and control the engagement. Don't complain when you are making his job easy. |

MD actually takes some skill to drop where you want it, and it doesn't have a lot of AOE effect so it pretty much has to be right on target to do any good. I was in a match the other day with some players lobbing mass driver rounds into an area by a spawn point and got hit something like 7 times without once getting killed by it.
I eventually went around and killed one of them, and someone got the other right after, but they just came back and resumed the barrage. It was interesting, but relatively non-threatening as long as their allies weren't attacking the location. |
