While I imagine we might require larger maps to fully make use of the possibilities, what do you think about allowing players to directly attack and damage the enemy MCC VIA specialized infantry and vehicle equipment*? Strategic options could be further expanded by allowing strategic orbital strikes onto the enemy MCC when certain conditions are met (like destroying a cloaking system or anti-OB defense system).
* Specialized equipment means just that, no chipping away with normal anti-infantry or even AV weapons. |

There would be no need to cap the null cannons.

You would have to use special equipment (probably deployables, installations and such) to do damage to it. And even then the majority of your team would have to be contributing to come close to matching Null cannon damage, and then if their team has cannons AND is hitting your base, you're screwed regardless. |

Interesting that you could do it previously.
I don't envision anything as boring as simply plinking away from under your MCC at the opposing, but more long the lines of fighters (medium aircraft) attempting to destroy key targets and weakpoints on an MCC, while heavy fighter/bombers attempt to drop payloads on them for higher damage. Infantry can deploy mortar-like projectiles that must be placed in close proximity to the MCC, and are highly visible when firing (Ranging from a constant beam laser to booming cannons) allowing for emergent objectives like directly defending the MCC, especially where specialized HAV's again, specifically designed to damage the MCC at close range (and little else aside from a few AP guns for protection), could add impromptu convoy missions to the list of emergent tactics and events.
Obviously there's still room for small maps with nothing but null cannons or null cannon equivalents (imagine fighting in stations/capitol ships?) but to limit the gameplay strictly to pre-existing objectives in the world of EVE is extremely narrow minded in my opinion. |
