Every now and then I come across a post here stating that running increases your scan profile, and I've been wondering...
Is this from some "official" source?
How much is the scan profile increased?
Also, is there any information on how the game determines if/when someone shows up on the scanner? |

I run scout shotgun setup all the time. The only people I cant see are other scouts, but they show up when they run. They just blip on the map for a moment but its enough to tell me a scouts in the area. So in the end I'd say only worry about running if you're a scout and trying to sneak around, although I dont have much experience with other suits scanning. I think heavies have horrible scans, so assualt or logi may be able to sneak up on them.
Showing up on radar is scan precision vs. your scan profile. You also show up if anyone puts you in their crosshairs, people call this marking your target. |

I don't know about any official channel, but I've noticed a marked drop in my deaths since I stopped running around every place. I notice people constantly moving across my field of vision, and until draw their attention by running or shooting at them, they otherwise wouldn't have known I was there. |

Yes, running will cause a blip to appear on the enemy's radar. Having more shields will also increase your profile size. |

btw, thanks for the replies but what I'm looking for is more detailed information.
How much does running increase your signature? Does walking increase it too? By how much? Does it simply compare profile to precision to determine who should show up, or does distance (within range) and/or time spent within scanner range effect it? (or something else?)

Well, I duno about others, but when I run scout with a single profile dampener (15% on the module, another 30% from dropsuit command and dampening skills), I've noticed several times I've been able to run right up to someone and shoot them without them noticing I was there until I fired, even when I sprinted into range.
Whether that's people just not noticing the blip on their radar or not I don't know. |

Id love to know this to. But that type of testing would require alot of time, people, and sp. And in the end the results would be questionable. Short of developers giving us all the details we are just going to have to estimate based off our own experiances.
But if you want to do all that work I would be happy to give you all the high fives and pats on the back you would like. |

Yes, the more shields you have the larger your sig radius. Although bear in mind that this does mean necessarily that you will show up on on the enemies radar. If your sig is large enough and the enemies scanner is strong enough a red chevron will appear near your location if the enemy is looking in your direction but there is some sort of obstruction between you. You can run up to an enemy's back usually so long as no one sees you doing it.
Actually showing up on their radar is a whole other thing. That has to do with whether or not an enemy has had line of sight on you or not. Your radius will also affect how quickly the red circle will disappear from the enemy's radar. I believe with a very high scan strength enemy's will show up as circles if they're close enough even without someone having line of sight on them but I'm not entirely sure.
Far as I know no one has the numbers yet, doubt we'll ever get the official word from CCP but eventually it will be figured out. |

I was running around defending objectives today in my scout suit. A logi showed up on my radar behind me inside a windowless building trying to take "B", I couldnt see in the entrance either. There was no way I could have had line of sight. Also I dont have mods or passives for precision yet.
Im realy starting to see the value of scout suits for spotting enemies. It feels like I have more impact on the battle defending then I do ninja caping. I will be maxing my passives and running precision and range mods soon. |
