I mean, you're gonna tell me i have to know every nook and cranny of how every race came to be and their purpose before i join a corp really? Oh wait, and your also going to tell me i have to say Hail? instead saying whassup brotha, or sup, or even just the word hey? And to top it off!!!
And to top if off!!!.... I have to be 18, or i have to have two years of FPS experience to join?
I don't know if this is sain to everyone else, but i find this to be outrageous in every sense.
I believe every corp is suppose to have a cause and u get members to support ur cause and ya know fight until u win ur war. Not make an empire... i don't find any purpose in that at all :(
If u find any good in ANY thing i just typed, please... tell me and why. |

oh, and some of these corps are empires in a sense. Not all Dust corps are pure dust players, some are Corporations that exist already in eve and have been built upon for years creating basically an empire for themselves to reap the rewards from. |

The FPS experience thing I understand for some of the more serious corps, as they don't want to recruit people who are poor shots. I think that first paragraph only describes RP corps.
As for the whole "empire building" thing, that will make a lot more sense once corps can actually take over planets. |

Maximus, Not all corps are like that, dont let an ill experience with a few corps taint your experience with all of them. There are many corps out there that try to take anyone in and make them into better players. |

If you are having trouble finding a corporation to join that you like- start one.
That's what the Gathering Forces trailer on YouTube is about.
It takes time, and work, to do it well; but, it can be done.
Maybe there are a bunch of under 18, new-to-FPS players who are having the same trouble you are. Spend 18,000 or so SP to get Corporation Management up to level 2 and put a post in the Recruiting forum.
I'm not trying to be crass, BTW. EVE corps have a very long standing tradition (10 years) of being picky. It takes a very long time to find a good corp.
My main capsuleer toon flew solo for about a year before joining a corporation. Corps are necessary to play the "bigger" game in both DUST and EVE, but if you just want to blow stuff up- don't rush it. Give yourself time to make a good choice. |

Back when I was in school, I joined a "clan" that was just a group of friends who played Quake. By the time Quake 3 came out, the group was shifting towards being what they called a "proper" clan, entering competitions, trying to prove themselves, and just generally changing their approach. Instead of just playing for fun, it was about being the best, and always winning, and I wasn't interested in that. I quit, and while I stayed friends with those guys for a good few years, and still occasionally played Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament and other games with (and against) them, they always saw me as a "casual" gamer.
I got the idea that only competitive gamers were in clans. Over the years, playing various iterations games, in various genres, I had that opinion reinforced by most clans and clan members that I met.
Then along came Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. And Chardude. He approached me, and asked me to join him in creating a clan. I said I was a casual player, and not really suited to being part of a clan. He told me that I was exactly the kind of person he was looking for, and that his was a casual clan. I was skeptical, but I figured, "why not? It's not like I'm losing something by trying". I joined the Reckoners as a founding member, with a clear statement that as soon as the clan became competitive and abandoned the focus on fun, I was out.
Since then, I've somehow ended up becoming the leader of the clan for a while, and now I'm one of our two co-leaders because one just wasn't enough (also because I'm a lazy bum and couldn't be bothered looking after everything myself).
Moral of the story: Most gaming clans are competitive on some level. It's hard to find a casual clan that's more about fun than winning (even though winning is fun). I got lucky, and found an awesome group of friends. If you dig around for long enough, you'll probably be able to find a Corp in DUST that cares about the same things you do. If not, start looking for players with the same ideals as you, and build your own.
But until you find/create a Corp that's right for you, either don't join anyone or run with the best fit you can find. Don't join a roleplaying Corp if that's not what you're about. I'd have thought that was pretty obvious. |

You ever watched "The Online Gamer" series on youtube? If you have then you'd understand why I find this very unsettling. I used to think these type of things were just really overly exaggerated stereotypes of MMO players, but now that I know it really exists and people out there really do take it to that point, my god, i don't even.... |

Real serious people go the whole nine yards. Replica platemail and everything. The high quality weapons are weighted and can hurt like hell if you hit someone with them. And no one dresses up in the brightly colored wizard hats and talks in a 'ye olde' accent unless they're trolling for laughs. Real serious LARP is more like paintball if everyone was a viking. (Of course, some people don't have access to the better stuff, so sometimes I guess you do get the guys with plastic swords messing around)
If your gamer buddy had walked into a group of real serious LARPers with that act, he'd have gotten beat down.
If you want a more concrete description, watch these.

This is a series of 4-5 minute long videos where a guy tells his buddy about his first try and a real serious LARP. Pretty funny, in my opinion.
Also, you don't actually take that 'Online Gamer' thing seriously, right? There's an episode where he beats up a charity collector for saying 'God bless you' for goodness sake. |

Watched the first video, it was really funny stuff, however it just made feel even more creeped out that these things actually happen lol, for anyone 13 and under it seems like a fun game or whatever but grown men making some armor and magic imaginary magic potions from kool aid and hoping into a forest to level up while slaying each other sounds way too nerd like for me.

The whole thing basically breaks down into an excuse to have a friendly brawl.
And I still don't really see what separates this so much from a match of paintball. The only difference is you have a heavier outfit and are actually swatting people with weighted weapons, not painting the enemy neon colors. |

is that confidence? or ignorance?........
As everyone else said, you probably found a role playing corp, MOST corps arn't like that, but some are, and thats up to them really. 18 years or older is a requirement for some corps because of how many people who play this game and eve dont want to have to deal with little kids whining and complaining. The 2 years fps thing makes sense because some elitist corps dont want fresh eve noobs in their corp.
as for your little rant about only dying when your surrounded..... most of the good players in this game can pubstomp randoms on there own, its only a matter of time before you play against a coordinated group of mercs, and then you'll change your tune i think. |
