When we go for a melee hit with a Dualshock controller, we have to hit R3. That means that we have to give up the ability to aim the melee attack in order to use the melee attack. So could there be a kind of aim assist/homing effect when you melee? I'm not asking for a lunge or left stick-esque movement, just a pure turning, right stick-esque thing. You still have to manually get into range and melee with the guy in front of you, and he can still back off or run around your possibly slower self. |

i find that i can aim better with it on the right stick. It can be hit from all angles so you should in theory be aiming with it before you try to hit...
most people i see melee are doing it as a desperate last resort more than an actual tactic and if its a good enough fight you kinda forget its a game and feel the desperation. |

Eventually, we'll be able to remap the buttons ourselves, so if you're finding yourself meleeing folks that often, just map a button that's easier to access to your melee.
As for homing or anything else, I disagree.
I doubt many people will be meleeing in Dust, regardless. With the active radar, low melee damage and absence (not lack but simply absence) of assassination melees, it's just not that viable an option unless it's a desperate last resort. |

I play a Laser Rifle Logi. Anything being anywhere nearer to me than medium-long range is pure panic material, and full of 'last resort' :l See my thread on Laser Rifles to understand why. It may be more shoddy hit detection than lack of aiming, but I have whacked still targets with no results one too many times not to try and suggest something.
Melee does 135 damage. Non-Hoovs have 2-3 melees in them before they keel over. Also, such a homing would probably go a long way to fixing Nova Knife's ineffectual stabbing, but I won't definitively say that because I've never Nova Knife'd as a sidearm (having no sidearm slot does that to you). But I have pistol-whipped people into comas with some trouble, so I felt to address a simple aiming issue through judicious use of auto aim.
In a game such as TF2, we have full control over our view, melee is an integral tool to your load-out, and most importantly the swing button doesn't interfere with your movement controls. Most PC KB/M games are like this, with either melee as a key, or as an equipped weapon and using M1. Meanwhile in games like MAG or CoD, the melee has a larger area of effect (a swipe) and can be a one-shot kill, so having full aiming control isn't as necessary. I would like to be able to remap the button to a trigger, but we already use all those, and a face button would have the same issue of taking the thumb off the stick. The only option I saw left was an aim-assist while melee-ing in melee range with a general 'lock' on your target, so I proceeded here. Now that I have divulged my thought process, I'm hoping we can get some ideas here. |

the last thing that should be in this game is easier melee. |

Zero has a point though. I have, on countless occasions, come across another sniper, we both run out of smg ammo while running around in circles trying to kill each other from five feet away, then we charge each other and try to melee. But this NEVER works, so the winner ends up being the first one to give up and actually reload the smg.
If not auto aiming, maybe just a little bigger area that gets hit. Right now I think I've hit someone maybe once. |

You just have to tap the L3 button once, then just don't let go of the direction. It's a simple toggle, and there is only one direction you can run(straight) so you don't have to 'aim' it. Meleeing on the other hand requires pinpoint aiming. Try thinking before posting, it'll save us all a headache. |

Precisely. The Sidearm is for when the Primary reload takes too long. The melee is for when the sidearm reload takes too long. If the Sidearm reload is better than attempting a melee 9/10 times, there is obviously an issue with how melee works. |

I'm still a newb but maybe one of these might help.
1) press R3 to go into melee mode(like run press again to exit it) then use L1 to block and R1 to punch, pistol whip, or whatever term you want. This could also just be left attack(L1) right attack(R2). then to top it off you could even throw in L2 and R2 for kicks. But that maybe going into it a bit too far. Still these guys are supposed to be trained killers(mostly). One would think they would have some skills with general melee.
2) this is not my FAV but i guess it could work. push both L1 and R1 together.
These both leave you able to use both sticks as you normally would. Hope this helps. |

Why isn't melee just another "weapon" you can switch to? Then you aim at the target and hit "R1" to clobber them? |
