I love how you are making a bit deal out of this.
It's a pub match. It is meaningless of the highest kind. Winning or losing does not matter in the slightest.
People do this because of the cap. Even if it's not a daily cap, it's still a cap. The only thing a cap really does is limit overall progression, but also has the nasty side effect of preventing anyone who misses time from catching up at all.
I do this all the time as well, because more often than not I'm too busy doing other stuff to actually play. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this, because people AFK'ing in the MCC are actually getting considerably less ISK and SP than someone who plays the whole match legit.
There's no reason to make a big deal out of something that isn't really an issue. |

I want SP as well, but not enough to play if I don't feel like playing, or leeching matches for those who are saying that's just being smart. My SP shouldn't come at the expense of my own enjoyment or that of others.
EDIT:
I fully understand my stance puts me at a serious disadvantage in the Dust world, and accept that.
So, people should never use tanks, because other people getting stomped by tanks is not enjoyable for them?
That;s a horrible parallel, but it makes about as much sense as people complaining about this.
You say you're playing for fun : But you're complaining that people aren't helping you win. That's contradicting itself right there. There is absolutely no reason to take pub matches seriously. If you're really playing for your own enjoyment, what someone else is doing should not matter to you in the slighest. Do you complain about brand new and/or bad players who can't get a kill and just go like 0/15 for the round, doing nothing but feed the enemy kills and clone your team out?
You're trying to take the high road here where there really isn't one.
People AFK'ing in the MCC get like half the SP/ISK of someone actually playing. It takes more time AFKing to even come close to what you earn by playing the game. You can call it however negatively you want. You're still never going to be surpassed by someone who's AFK'ing in the MCC if you actually play the game. It's a nonissue.
Take me for example : I've been really busy doing other StuffTM the past few weeks since the reset/daily cap. Playing normally I'd never have enough time to hit the cap every day and still get my other stuff done. This would mean that I would be 'behind' in the progression scheme of things, and no amount of grinding when I actually do have time to play would ever allow me to catch up. That's the biggest problem with the caps right now. But by AFK'ing for a few hours/day, I've been able to cap out every day without worrying about needing to finish my own stuff.
I'd wager a lot of ISK that is what Kain was afking for similar reason. He has 'more important' things to do related to dust than actually playing the game. |

Since you actually admit to AFK'ing matches for hours on end to get SP it's safe to say you are kind of a parasite on the game. You are not entitled to SP, and your attitude about it is beyond rotten. Imagine how **** the game would be if 50% of the community treated the game with as little respect as you do, oh we got 7 players on our team actually playing, sweet. Public matches would be beyond a joke for the 90% of players who really care about each match they play. SP Is a reward for playing the game, not a thing you deserve even if you can't play.
Would you like to know what I do, while I AFK in the MCC?
I do things on the forums, I work on spreadsheets for overall balance feedback, I talk in channels to give people help and advice to get them started in dust. I work as a middleman to help corps get in touch with each other. I spend a horrendous amount of time saying the same things over and over on IRC for people who didn't hear them the first time (Things CCP has said on IRC or on the forums, etc) And then there's my real life job.
I could go on, but I think it's safe to say that I make a more positive contribution to dust by 'not playing' , than I would if I were to just sit there and no-life.
You can call me a parasite if you like, but before you make such statements, know that there are very few players out there who have devoted as much time to helping make dust more awesome as I have. (I know that sounds a little conceited and e-peenish, but it was not meant to be) I only bring this up because you have the gall to suggest I do not respect the game or the people who play it. :( |
