1. Communications.
We had different ingame channels. Anyone could talk to their squad. The squadleader could talk to either his squad or the other officers, which means all of the 4-16 other squadleades and the 2-4 platoon leaders and the OIC. The platoon leader could talk to his entire platoon and the OIC could talk to the entire team for those epic pep talks!
I would like this or a version of this especially if we get more large scale battles in the future. With larger squads coming, I hope we will be able to have a "officer chat" consisting of the squadleaders, the chosen "battle commander" and the guy from EVE in orbit. Changing mid battle should be easy, we could always asign the "push to talk button" to a "swap ingame chat channel" button. This is possible to create with the current system but I do miss the effortlessness of the MAG system.
2. Proxy chat.
For those that haven't played a game with it, its just awesome! Being able to tell that bluedot to get out of the LAV, or to stop redline sniping and go do something useful is not only very practical, but also very entertaining. I remember several times me sneaking behind enemy lines only to get cought due to farting like the Almight Jabba himself. Being quiet and not communicating with your squad was an important factor in being stealthy.
This is the feature I miss the most in Dust, I hope it will be implemented down the line. Yes I know, closed dropsuit and all, don't really care about stuff making sense, a lot of stuff already doesn't in this game. Fun over realism any day.
3. A working medkit system.
Or "nanite injector" for all you EVEtards out there. I'll gladly admit that the rezzing in MAG was a little over the top. You could squirt someone from some distance and they'd instantly spring back to life with 100% health, this also led to rez-chains where one guy could pic up one, that got the next guy and suddenly you had a 8 man squad back on their feet fighting within a few seconds.
The way it works now in Dust just isn't satisfactory. A meter count to the downed friendly for the medic would be nice, a needle that actually hits its target, a skill that increases your bleed out time..... One issue here is that everytime soemone uses an AUR item of any sort and doesn't get picked up, CCP has a potential for that character restocking and by extension making more money.
4. Progressive gameplay.
We had some in Skirmish 1.0, and it was fantastic! I'm not gonna elaborate more since I take it as a certainty that this will be implemented in the future, how could they not?
5. A capture the flag kind of game mode.
In MAG it was called Aquisision, one atticking and one derfending team, but thats not really important. The attacker had to get the bunker line down, push the defenders to spawn at the back of the map and go in and steal a prototype vehicle and drive it out the way they came in. So it was in effect a combination of a preogressive game mode and the more classical capture the flag.
I don't care for the Lore, what reasoning lies behind a game mode as this, which form it takes or none of those details. I just want a game mode were the team that can bring object X from point A to point B wins. Call it the "Steal that prototec thingy" or whatever for all I care. You can win by steamrolling, tactical manouvers, being sneaky or just be a die hard rambo that gets it all done on his own, which one man could in MAG, though it was extremely rare and very difficult to do..
6. Larger clan/corp grouping and deployment.
Not an issue at the moment, with such small teams there really isn't any need to beef up the groups further. Any decent corp group of 4 should be able to stomp their way to victory in the game's current state. This will however be very important when hopefully the game will get more competitive.
However, 8 man corp battles? Its pathetic...
And by all means, I do not intend to make Dust into MAG, not by a long shot. These are mere fractions of what makes a game fun and I don't think it will do anything but make Dust a more fun game to play. That is all.
