It apparently works well against randumbs in pubs, but dampeners are almost completely useless to use in corp battles. Usually people don't run around like a chicken with his head cut off in corp battles.
I disagree as I've seen scouts (actually I think PFBHs) who seemed to wait behind cover for me to turn, then suddenly shotgun to the head.
That being said your not supposed to run around in the open with your dampeners and you need to keep an eye on radar to make sure your staying out of view from where you are hopefully spotting enemies.
I've seen some devastating tactics where a low profile suit was behind us, squad hits from, scout hits back, death ensues. So run+gun is important. As long as your engaged in battle that dampener isn't doing anything for you.
Also as a note damper does nothing against manual targeting. If I see you from across the map running and put my crosshairs on you, your spotted. Profile has to do with passive effect within your general line of site (and a little behind) and the ability (if you beat the opponents score enough) to see them through walls.
Also if you are spotted by one person, you will light up for the entire team.
It also supposedly impacts how long you remain "on radar" when you are now out of sight.
Note: these are mostly insights from pub matches with corp players. Good players will do thorough sweeps but I never said skill wasn't also involved. |

Not sure if you're still checking this but I still think long term it will be viewed as more important.
I won't argue it is most important (and you had facts I was unaware of and you can expect to see a perfectly still heavy around a corner soon) but I feel it has a lack of appreciation.
For the skills at least i know I will watch a radar signature moving behind cover and judging by their movements I can make assessments off of it. A signature moving back and forth might tell me something different from a still signature. I can base decisions on that and my understanding is my detect v their profile is factor in how long that signature is maintained.
I can't defend my opinion well since I only have my word of mouth personal experience but I still maintain that that intel is important and will be perceived as more important down the line. More important than putting points into Weaponry and Circuitry right away? No, but important. |

I can understand this 100%, it is a different mechanic that we just don't understand completely yet. And even what we do know, it is one thing to know and another to know it well enough to use it as instinct like we might other information/mechanics.
Seeing a target doesn't mean he might not also have friends. I also often worry when I am relying on it that I will lose the signature. It is one thing to use it as data and another to pursue a plan relying on maintaining that signature. Suddenly your waiting for someone to pop round the corner, signature disappears and maybe you were only sticking around because you had that surprise.
If it can be used through walls and etc like I am under the impression it can, I wouldn't be surprised if some day people could actually estimate enemy class on signature. Like "Oh I didn't pick him up sooner, we have a scout incoming" or "Spotted that guy a mile away we have a heavy incoming". Would be really difficult I imagine but never underestimate a player base. |
