The ability to join up with members of your corp either player or npc.
Jump in an exploration dropship or ATV and drive around a district looking for mineral deposits, salvage or artifacts.
Challenges could include:
- Terrain (cliffs, liquids, atmosphere, radiation) - Weather - Claim jumpers (other players, 1 life and your gone though) - Drones - Resources (oxygen, radiation protection, fuel they run out giving a limited time to explore) - Animals - NPC bandits/pirates
Basically a Dust version of planet exploration from Mass Effect 1.
Probably would only be lore viable in Null Sec and Wormhole space.
This could tie into the whole planetary exploitation aspect of low sec/ null. Or could work in tandem with Eve side explorers who could fit an "exploration jump clone bay" which would allow Dust players to ride along or jump when nesscery. Eve players could even put up contracts to look for mineral deposits in return for isk rewards.
Ultimately because it would nice to play dust at a slightly slower pace, exploring the beauty and character of maps (and maybe indulge in planetary flight) without worry about being OMGBBQ'd every other second. |

I think it would also be a good way to get close and personal with the lore of eve.
Stuff that doesn't effect the game but you would go "ohh, hmmm thats intresting"
Like terran ruins, Mass graves, odd and puzzling structures made by who-knows.
Eve lore is rich and there is only so many ways to explore it from space.

Jack Hawthorn wrote:Sounds like loads of fun but it might not work with the idea of mercenaries.
Well real world mercs don't just go and fight, they train local militias or they act as escort teams for oil drilling crews in the Libyan desert for example.
Immortal clone soldiers are the perfect survey team for a hostile world, they are expendable, renewable and extreme hardy. Means the big bad corporations don't have to waste thier precious trained staff on potentially lethal endeviours. Mercs just means they'll do anything for money with no real loyalty to any one corp or faction.
They might not strictly be fighting per se, but it is another apllication for tough trained immortal cloned soldiers. |

I know what you both saying.
Im not suggesting that it happen tomorrow.
I think it wouldn't take that much to impliment at the basic level.
It would simply be an unrestricted map, with very little strucures on it. The main rub, as it were, would be the system needed to find the resources initially. This could be anything from interactive crates, wreckage or some new assets.
I think the important thing is to keep this on ccps radar.
I for one would love to zip around in a drop ship, talk nonses to my squad mates while we are like "omg check that deposit of Isogen 5 on the port side" and then perhaps we spot another resource crew...
Then things get intresting. |
