Will Dust be available on PS4, yadda, yadda, yadda....
[ahem]
Assuming - as is overwhelmingly likely - Dust will be available on PS4, and also - as is even more overwhelmingly likely - they won't instantly kick all PS3 players off when it happens, the game will have players on both platforms simultaneously.
Has anyone got any insight into how difficult it would be to maintain parity between the two versions, so that PS4 players don't have an automatic advantage?
I'm assuming PS4 players would see much more detail, smoother animations, higher FPS, etc. Is this likely to give them any significant advantage?
And before anyone points it out, yes, I'm aware that anything said at this point is likely to be pure speculation. I'm just hoping that some of the speculation is from people with experience of a similar console FPS migration to a better platform.

You can artifically impose 'sanctions' on the ps4 side. limiting thier view and the sorts but overall for responsiveness you cant do anything about it. |

Your making assumptions.
1.) I will look better on ps4 than on ps3. This is dependent on how unreal engine is working. Moving to new hardware doesn't always mean performance difference. 2.) Since your logging into the EVE server i think pairing is easy. Same way you can login from multiple pc's built differently.
IMO i think they will change the graphics engine at some point once they are on ps4. Then for ps4 users they will get better graphics. Just like any game just because you run your game on HIGH doesn't mean im at a disadvantage running mine on low. They will just have to be careful on draw distance. |

Some things change up becuase of better graphics, some games for example have ground clutter and in few of them having ground clutter on is a disadvantage becuase you can hide in it, while a guy on low graphics would see him. Another one would be in planetside 2 for example on low graphics its really hard to see your AA shots and assist with shooting planes down cranking it up gives you a definite advantage. |

Dust was built using the Unreal 3 engine, but Unreal 4 has been in the pipe for a while now and should be launching relatively soon.

I would think that the graphics updated offered by the U4 engine would be leveraged by CCP once U4 launches.... I can only assume that the Dev team had enough foresight to make Dust514 somewhat future-proof, coding things for an easy upgrade to U4. |

That's the kind of thing I was after, thanks.

If they port the same game from the ps3 they can simply keep the 30 fps limit and update the graphics. However they need to get the game running as smooth as possible on ps3 first. |

How far into the distance you can see. In some games it is very distinct: you can see things popping into view in the distance, especially jarring when driving in a fast vehicle. |

So if PS4 hardware allows them to implement a further draw distance then it is possible for a Fred (on a PS4) to see Bill (on a PS3) while Bill can't see Fred? |

The obvious answer is "yes, ps4 will most probably have an advantage". FPS is the defining factor. If ps3 ends up having the better fps but crappy graphics, I for one will consider ps3 the advantageous system respectively. Pc competitive games were often played at lowest settings to improve fps, as long as it did not interfere with perception. Dusts biggest perception interference is draw distance detailing, if that goes away on ps4 it will negate most of the so called hitbox glitch.
Will the consoles play on same fields? Probably, perhaps with additional options for ps4.
